First blood: the first Wiimote casualty from Japan

Darwin must be stirring once again in his grave right now. Despite geographical distances to set people apart, it turns out that one new common genetic quirk we all have is a case of butter fingers. Yes, as it was for North America, so it happens in Japan. What we've got below is probably the first ever documented Wiimote accident from Japan.

Crash!

The guy who posted this made his entry on December 2. That's the same day as the console launch, and in less than a day's time, his son managed to smash their TV's liquid display. The guy who posted the picture was able to phone in the repair shop and got an estimate of ¥ 200,000 (that's roughly US$ 1,740.73, jeezus!) to fix the screen.

If Nintendo hasn't emphasized enough the safety information on handling the Wiimote, then may we take this opportunity to stress it once again.
  1. Wear the wrist strap
  2. Hold it firmly
  3. Give yourself plenty of room
We're sorry for being redundant here, but hey! We know what it feels like when you've busted up a TV screen. Now, here's an open question. Anyone here think that there's going to be more reports from Japan of shattered/cracked TVs? Raise your hands!

» Strap it up

The strap has saved my LCD TV 3 times so far. Twice playing baseball and once while bowling.

...you all deserve to get your tvs destroyed if

you are stupid enough to let go of the wii mote. How STUPID CAN YOU BE to ACUALLY THROW a remote

at a tv?

I was hoping the 'first blood' ment that someone had died from being hit from a wii mote

If that did happen, the peron who threw it would get what they deserved --- 20 to life!

» tennis

I have an overhang in my living room that i busted my thumb open on while playing bowling. I managed to hold on to the remote, but i also managed to apparently swing too hard....

which brings me to......how did this kid swing so hard playing tennis as to break the tv, i don't even entirely understand where swinging would have let it into the direction of the tv at all

damn...just read about all these Wii accidents and then you'll start being careful. I started to read these and i was like "holy crap" or "what a loser"

by alex9999 - 2006-12-05 13:18
» huh?

how the ***** people manage to break the strap...?

i mean. you dont need to swing THAT hard ¬.¬... this is not nintendos fault.. stupid people...

» No Blood

I was also hoping to see some blood in the picture, but it was just another accident. You do need a lot of space to play the for games like Wii Sports and I don't think there is that kind of space in Japan. I can't wait until the first European and Australian accidents.

» Dont blame people for breaking their TV's

You can't blame all people for being "Wiitards" for breaking their TV. For instance, in this case, it was done by a little kid and kids make accidents all the time. Also Nintendo's strap isn't exactly made out of the best material. I'm really waiting for the day Nintendo or a third party releases stronger straps cause these stories are getting scary as I also have a nice big HDTV and the warranty expires just after Christmas (and after hearing these stories, I might consider renewing my warranty to get extended warranty). And that grip glove is not a feasible option. I mean who would want to wear a leather glove in the summer or even indoors at that?

When my little sister or even when my friends come over to play the Wii, I emphasize them to put the strap on or else they won't be able to play.

» you sure?

I think they're just trying to get media attention(and possibly a new T.V.) Don't fall for this..they busted it with a rock, likely; ..an Xbox or PS fanatic dissin' on the Wii...how sad

by mii - 2006-12-05 15:18
» rawr

this is getting way too much media attention. people are clumsy. get used to it. there are people dying in wars right now and then there's people that get pissed because THEY broke a strap on their controller by being retarded, and get pissed. play it right, or dont play it all, but whatever you do, quit giving the stupid things attention.

You know. EVERY game i play theres that little warning that says to STRAP the controller as seen here. And just a few days ago Nintendo said NEVER LET GO OF THE CONTROLLER!" And if you wanna thrw hard in baseball just pitch underhand. You don't even have to try to throw hard. The Controllers Sensitive.

by haha - 2006-12-05 17:36
» geez

WE were always taught to take care of the few posessions we have, in the United States; we were ALWAYS taught not to toss around our controllers, no matter how childish these 'toys' may seem-they're expensive/

damn rich kids need to learn to appreciate their things; but alas, knowing they always get what they want, just toss that wiimote into the tv, dad will get them a new one tomorrow :(

so, you think their excuse that its not the kids fault? That its nintnedo. Ok, lets put a bulldozer, a compecated piece of equipment into a 4 yr olds hands and see what happens. WHAT THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT FROM CHILDEREN WHO DONT EVEN CONTROL ALL THEIR MOTOR SKILLS???? *****ing dumbass'

Warranty doesn't cover accidental unless its one expensive warranty.

» Punks

Maybe all you puss ies out there are too daaaaaamn weak to break a little wussy string. But people like me swing that wiimot hard enough to knock Lidell out. The strap was made for weak little punks.

by Wade - 2006-12-06 04:36
» strap

I think he's just trying to say that if you know these things are flying off, create a stronger strap. Also, test it with real people who know nothing about the system. The straps aren't strong enough to handle that kind of force. There's a lot more force on those straps than you'd think, especially if it slips out and you pull back, thinking it's still in your hand (remember it happens in a fraction of a second, hardly enough time to react, especially if you happen to get sweaty hands, and were holding onto it and it slipped). Yes, I know, wipe your hands, but sometimes you don't realize it because you're having too much fun. The cost between the strap they used and a stronger one was probably a cent or two, which is why the weaker one. Anyways, it's really no one's fault, technically though, they could have made a stronger strap.

» You are the punk, punk...

Lethal is a dumba$$...

Yet another example of how stupid, spoiled American kids think that you have to swing the wii-mote like a lumberjack... The controller is SENSITIVE, *****e for brains! You can bowl or play baseball + tennis with little swinging force and hit further that the gorilla fisted dumba$$es who break their mommy and daddy's TVs.

Lethal, I'll ask your mom how she'd feel if you broke her TV...when I see her later (wink!)
