Fils-Aime: We sold 5 million Wiis already this year

nintendo-wii-systemsWe know how the Wii's still continuing to rake in serious cash for Nintendo, but really, we had no idea they've already moved five million units this year alone! It's only the beginning of May, people. That puts the math at 1.25 million units sold per month since January 2010.

This detail was confidently shared by Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime in a chat with CNBC. According to him, this amount is actually "the entire amount that our competitors have sold over the previous 12 months."

Not only that, but he also boasted of how they have successfully gotten almost a million Wii to subscribe to Netflix, since the launch of the service back in March.

Is Reggie bluffing with the numbers? We'll find out soon enough as NPD's April results should be out soon.

as exaggerated as that may seem, somehow, I believe fils-aime's guesstimated number. give or take a few couple hundred thousands.

I doubt he's lying bold-faced to the media about hard numbers like that.

5 million units sold to play what games? Besides maybe TvC and No More Heroes 2 as January releases, I have not seen another great game worth playing since then.
