FFCC: My Life as a King - Game director on development phase, future DLC |
Ó
Last week, North America's Wii console owners saw the launch of their region's WiiWare service. Among this new service's titles, however, none picked up quite as much attentions as Square Enix's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King.In line with the launch, Square Enix rustled up a short Q&A session with game director Kenichiro Yuji, who didn't mind providing insight into FFCC's development phase. First off, Yuji explained that given the size limitations of both his dev team and the WiiWare service, they focused on the game's core experience.
My Life as a King did away with the memory-sapping visuals that typical RPGs used for cutscenes and fighting animation. Battles in the game were kept streamlined and easy-to-follow, and used text-based reports. Yuji did note that several planned features never made it into the game's final build. One of his more memorable "what ifs" included a free-play mode which would toss random dungeons at the player.
His team had also considered putting an epilogue at the FFCC's ending, though this was axed since they felt it didn't fit into the game well. One other feature Yuji mentioned (and some of you will probably wish was implemented) was a possible multiplayer function using the Wii's Wi-Fi capability.
Lastly, Yuji also delved into some of the future downloadable content being lined up for My Life as a King. To quote the director's statement during the interview:
- Fresh King: an outgoing and sporty outfit for the king. You can change into it immediately in the castle after acquisition.
- Summer Chime: a bikini that accentuates ChimeÂ’s charm in a resort-style bikini. You can change into it immediately in the castle after acquisition.
- Castle Expansion: a new dungeon will be added which unlocks new options in the castle menu, such as those that allow you to change individual adventurerÂ’s names.
- Library: a new dungeon will be added that allows the construction of the Library, which allows adventurers to learn new abilities.
- Infinity Spire: a tough dungeon that allows for infinite challenges
