Level 5's president says magazines ignoring the Wii will go out of business - Image 1Nintendo has taken the next-gen market by storm. Easily one of the fastest selling consoles ever, this product has captured the attention of multitudes of gamers since it first came out.

It has been said that the popularity of the Wii is due to the fact that casual gamers can pick it up and play more easily. With all the changes in the gaming industry, it can be expected that market strategies must adjust to the phenomenon, lest companies get left behind.

The president of Factor 5 (which is developing Lair for the PS3), Julian Eggebrecht, acknowledged this fact and gave his take on the situation:

Let's say the Wii takes over the world. Just naturally, the traditional magazines - if they stick to their current position of slightly dissing it - will simply go out of business.

If on the other hand the market stays as diverse as it is right now, which is actually quite exciting I think, then there just might be room for a more hardcore press which will potentially drift further away from the casual side, and a casual press which appreciates what companies like Nintendo are doing.

What Eggebrecht said is pretty obvious, as companies that won't adopt will undoubtedly go out of business. However, this blogger believes that there will always be room for hardcore and casual gamer magazines, no matter who wins the console war. After all, while there are more casual gamers, hardcore gamers tend to spend more on gaming.

video game (and most hobby) magazines have always catered to the hardcore; I very much doubt they'll go "out of business" on account of dissing the wii and disenfranchisin g people who are unlikely to buy and read such magazines if they are just casual gamers in the first place.

im not sure this dude has a clue wot hes talking about in the articcle. like the dude before me said casual gamers dont buy these magazines they dont read about their consoles etc hence being casual gamers. no magiazines will go out of business purely for ignoring the wii. Its not a next gen console! its got a whole market of its own hence its doing so well. nintendo obviously shrudley knew they couldnt compete technologically with sony and microsoft so they just went for innovation and fun, and aimed for the casual gamers and its paid of for them. im curious where they can go from here tho...

» Nintendo needs it's own Unofficial Mag....

Much like the XBOX and PS, Nintendo needs it own unofficial mag with employees to reveiw games for the Wii and DS that are not paid by Nintendo. Im tired of Nintendo Power's biased articles.

Actually just about every Nintendo Power i have ever glanced through only has about 2 games they really give a gold star too...I'm sure they rank the crap higher than other magazines would, but as far as nintendo gamers interests go, it's pretty on the money...

it might, but then again, Nintendo Power is actually gives great ratings. The people who work at Nintendo Power are not connected whatsoever to videogames-they just make the articles with Nintendo's resources. Obviously they may be biased towards Nintendo, but nevertheless, they know what they are doing. I think onlthe only game to ever get a perfect ten will be MP3, although I'm not 100% sure.

What about RE4? It got a perfect 10 from NP, and it WAS great. So I am looking foward to this Halo 2 graphics surpassing game known as METROID PRIME 3: CORRUPTION!!!
