Facebreaker fails to break expectations, sells only 52,000 |
Ó
Looks like we've now got a clear candidate for one of those games that Electronic Arts will be "killing" in pursuit of maintaining high-quality titles: Facebrewaker. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver as much power in its punches as the creators originally hoped for.
Reports have now come in from the NPD Group confirming that the comical boxing title from EA sold a measly 52,000 units in September - and this was for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms combined. Clearly, and we'd have to agree, this is "disappointing", as UBS analyst Ben Schacter would describe.
The significance of Facebreaker (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii) for the company could have been huge given that it was one of the first original IPs that EA produced under the new company direction. To add to the burn, Michael Pachter said he had low expectations for it right from the start.
It's really an irrelevant title. Mercenaries, Spore and Warhammer all exceeded expectations, and EA is a portfolio of titles. They got some right, and they got some wrong. Dead Space is kicking butt, so it's hard to criticize them for underperformance from their smallest game.
Ouch. Oh well, the Wii version is yet to come out anyway next month. Maybe then it'll make a comeback of sorts? But it's quite hard pressed to expect a "comeback" for a game that's crashed and burned even before it arrived, right?

Comments [refresh]
i liked the game demo but i just didn't want to buy it lmao!
the game sucks balls
they bring this out
yet they cancel the C&C Tiberium FPS game.... disappointing
EA are failing yet they run the gaming industry practically...it boggles the mind it does
lol i remeber seeing the commercial wit snoop dogg in it.....how pathetic....for both of them...snoop can do wayyyyy better than that
and EA was pathetic enough to get someone who has NOTHING to do with a crappy cartoonish boxing game to be in their commercial
That douche peter moore got behind it calling it the next coming of jesus... and gamers gave him an eyebrow and laughed at the fool.
The game is a$$ and a$$ doesn't sell.
You don't need to be an analyst to understand that facebreaker sucks, seriously this game is just pointless ...
although your comment is your opinion, there is no such thing as a "pointless" game. somebody out there likes it. not me though, the demo is pretty sorry.
I've bet the people who bought it problaby regret buying it.... then again, i have been wrong before
worth $60 bucks....they're worth about $20 US...and should start at $30 and drop to $20 as soon as a new version comes out...or if they just plain suck (like they usually do).
Very first sentence.
" Electronic Arts will be "killing" in pursuit of maintaining high-quality titles: Facebrewaker."
should say Facebreaker.
