ESRB rates Double Dragon for re-release on U.S. Virtual Console - Image 1We just got word that the Entertainment Software Rating Board has just re-rated the classic video game Double Dragon for release on Nintendo's U.S. Virtual Console service.

The publisher that made this possible appears to be Aksys Games. This is rather important as Double Dragon has been in limbo for some time now. This happened when its original developer Technos Japan Corporation went bankrupt. U.S. publishers Acclaim and Tradewest are also suffering from financial woes.

Double Dragon
is actually a franchise but since no particular iteration was mentioned by ESRB, we have to believe that what it rated was actually the first game in the series.

That particular game was originally released in 1989 on arcade machines. Several ports were then created for video game consoles NES, Sega Master System, and Atari systems. It features a beat-em-up style of play and revolves around the story of a post-apocalyptic New York City.

Nintendo has yet to announce an exact release date for Double Dragon so just keep your eyes peeled on this space for future updates.

One of my favorite games along with part 2 and 3 - Two being my favorite of all. Story is good and the game is just hard to beat if you have not play it before and dont know the tricks how to beat the bosses. Hope they make a good port of this game and actually revamp the graphics a little. Dont forget Ninja gaiden 1,2 and 3 for the NES - best ones ever.
