If Super Smash Bros. Brawl (SSBB) tournaments are your thing, you may be interested in what Nintendo's PR Manager, Eric Walter, has to say about the rules and the mechanics behind the SSBB tournaments, and well as Nintendo's rationale for coming up with them.

According to Walter, Nintendo wanted to keep the playing field as level as possible, hence the tendency to mix and match players and the use of consistent conditions (i.e. Battlefield stage, four-minute rounds, starting roster only and the classic controller for use) throughout tournament matches.

Nintendo hasn't been just formulating rules, though - the company has also been paying attention as to which characters have been popular and successful throughout the tournaments so far. Walter mentioned that Kirby, Snake, and Olimar have been doing rather well. The PR Manager also said that he didn't expect the Ice Climbers to be as popular as they currently are.

Walter also discussed a number of other topics, such as the place of SSBB in Nintendo's evolution as a company how the game compares to Super Smash Bros. Melee. For more information on those and other subjects, kindly refer to the video below:
