Did you know that before Warren Spector and Disney Interactive Studios decided on the Wii as the platform of Epic Mickey, it was originally intended to be a multiplatform game? Yeah, that's right. Had the wind blown a different direction, we might have seen this game on the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC as well. So why did it not happen?

Spector answers that question in an interview with the Official Nintendo Magazine's (ONM) 50th issue, saying that Disney let him concentrate on the Wii platform so he can make the very best game he could. Was there pressure to bring it to other formats? "The reality is that we started Wii development in 2008, but before that we were a PC, PS3 and 360 title," he revealed.

It's burned in my brain - Graham Hopper [Disney Interactive boss] pulled me into my office one day and said, 'What does it take to deliver on the goals we have for this product?' And I said, 'Well, you need enough time and enough money to be competitive. And it'd be awfully nice if we could focus on one platform.'

At that time we were talking about a Wii port and I was begging people - no, we can't just port to the Wii, it's not going to work. It needs to be its own game. A lot of the design ideas just won't work on the Wii, we need to give the Wii its dues. Graham looked at me and said, 'What do you think about a Wii exclusive?' and I went, 'Holy cow - yeah!'

And so it came to pass that the Wii version of the game trumped out all the other platforms for the fulfillment of Epic Mickey.

If you want to get more juicy info on this up and coming game, check out ONM's 50th issue, going on sale on November 20, 2009. In the meantime, enjoy the cool new screenshots for the game that we have here.

» A good idea

He was smart to make it a Wii Exclusive because there is barely any room for those kinds of games to be recognized or attract attention on the PS3 & Xbox360.

All ppl go for nowadays with those systems are hardcore games with High quality graphics and nonstop action. The Wii fits Epic Mickey's demographic atmosphere well enough, hopefully the game still sells.

» simple economics

just say goodbye to a few million profit until they port this.

yes the wii has a very big user base but a large percentage of them are only interested in playing wii sports or mario.

and since there is very little worthwhile adventure titles on the ps3 and 360, this could be a big seller for those who need to stray away from their ultra bloody action games.

i admit the pc version will not sell well but it will the prettiest.

and probably the one i was going to play.

I wouldn't say that's true. LBP did very well on PS3.
