Next-gen babiesYes, much has been said about the console wars, most especially about the battle being waged in the Land of the Rising Sun. But we figured, it wouldn't be talked about in the first place if people aren't interested, right? With that said, here's a quick update based on the new numbers released by research firm Enterbrain.

According Enterbrain, the Wii just broke the one million mark in Japan alone with a total number of units sold at around 1.14 million. Just a couple of days ago, the number was somewhere around 990,000. Just imagine how fast our Japanese friends are gobbling up Nintendo's next-gen baby.

Enterbrain also said that Sony was able to sell 534,336 PS3 units. The firm was previously unable to release data for the Xbox 360 sales, but this time, it's saying that Microsoft's console sales is around 311,053 units.

The numbers were tallied starting from the consoles' original release dates until January 7 of this year. Take note that these figures apply to Japan only. The data provided favors the Wii, but Japan has always been Nintendo Country anyway.

We guess we'll just have to see about other territories since the state of things in other parts is quite different. We'll keep you updated with the latest info we get.

Stop calling the "Plumbers" Wee system Next Generation. By Ninty's own admission it is just an overclocked Game Cube. The revolutionary controller was originally designed to be an acessory to the Game Cube. If you buy the Wee, you are basically paying Ninty $250 for a controller. Who's getting ripped off here? They should have sold it for at most $150.

Suckers...(Nintendo faithfull)

Wow the XBOX 360 sold better in Japan than I thought. If they keep the Japanese style RPGs coming they will continue to get market share from sony. Wouldn't that be unexpected for the 360 to beat sony in Japan too.

seeing that it is a new console Wii is still a next generation system. So you can go eat your hat. 360 and ps3 are no better just giving us the same game but with better graphics.

So it's either same game different way to play it

or it's same game different look.

Obviously everyones money is going toward different way to play it. Numbers don't lie just people who don't like sales reports

You sir, are an eediot. By your logic sony could have just overclocked the EE cpu, put a motion controller with the redesigned smaller PS2 that they released in 2004 and called it a revolution in gaming and that would be next gen.

It is not just grafix.

It is enemy AI

Massive destructible, deforming environments.

Real time weather/ time effects.

a year or 2 from now we will see what the 360 and the PS3 can do and you and your $250 controller/Game Cube will be left in the dust.

HA ha.

Saysaysay......Jethro...2+2 does not equal 5

Sounds awesome that Nintendo is doing so great. They are the only ones who kept with the real picture and that's playing games. What's a gaming console suppose to do? That's right games ^^ so go Nintendo and make your money so you can make even more consoles and even more inovations!! 2+2 does equal 5 if you add Nintendo to the mix cuz they are # 1 !!

# who will winGuest 2007-01-15 20:55
everybodies talking about what console will win, but it seems that nobody wants to actually support their system. Im behind sony all the way. Ive got a ps1,2, p, and 3. I also got about 10 people to buy ps3's. if sony fails thats 10 people that will kill me. I hope that the sony fans pull it together and support playstation. there are about 100mil playstation owners out there, atleast half of them can get a ps3. Im also tired of everyone talking about ps3 losing to the wii in japan, because ps3 out sold the 360 in japan and the 360 had a year headstart, but nobody wants to talk about that!!!!

# NO HEADSTARTGuest 2007-01-15 22:28
The 360 did not have a year headstart,Sony decided to go for Blu Ray and released their console when they were ready(their problem) whereas M$ had a machine with a huge amount of power up and ready a year sooner so not a headstart just business genius.

And I would not rely to much on Japan to fall back on if you look at M$ now compared to Xbox1 this time they have RPG games etc on the way 1 being released already (Blue Dragon) talks with Capcom etc we shall see.
