Downloadable arcade game - Image 1According to EEDAR (Electronic Entertainment Design and Research), game publishers can now tap into a relatively new facet of gaming industry: downloadable content, also known as "console storefronts". Their research showed that gaming publishers have the potential to double their profits if they will create or distribute games as downloadable content through consoles that are connected online.

So, if you're a developer and you're planning to publish downloadable games on any of the three next-gen consoles, here are some numbers about downloadable content that you need to chew on:

So far, games that provide both downloadable demos and trailers manage to net 69% more income compared to games that do not offer demos or trailers.

Nintendo Wii has the largest number of downloadable games (the Wii distributes 51% of all 187 downloadable games currently available on all console storefronts). On the other hand, Microsoft's Xbox 360 has the most number of original titles available for purchase online. Sony's PlayStation 3 currently holds the record of charging the most for its content.

Another interesting tidbit that surfaced in EEDAR's research is that 94% of downloadable games from the Arcade genre are re-releases from previous console systems.

Ironic. Sony charges less for PS1 titles than Nintendo charges for SNES titles...

Its cause we have actual complete games on there. Also, we have Warhawk which is 40 alone. Tekken, 20-30 and some games like calling all cars which is ten and so on.

personally, i think ps store is the best of all of them because of their great games.

Yeah, it's cuz of those that they 'win' that award. Hell, warhawk beats any other downloadable game anywhere!

I would really like to see Sony open the flood gates on PS1 games tho! Enuff with random crap we could care less about! Hows about starting with titles that hit the "greatest hits" status.

Yeah, they should bombard us with psx games.

especially, gta2, any tony hawk, tekken 3, marvel vs capcom, rival schools, etc.

Greatest hits is a great idea though...release like 5 a week of greatest hits and not random low rep games like that jumping game. C: SoTN is good, spyro good, etc

Actually I've been in the ps market place and its actually the worst of the three consoles I own a wii,PS3,360,psp and ds. The Market place for the 360 is great for those who love to try games out first can with demos for almost any game. They also update the market place often so it never gets stale. The wii doesn't have demos (hint! nintendo hint!) But they do make it easy to get around and get the exact item you want and they update all the time so new games come out every month. they could give the site more color and change it up more than they do. Sony has a few demos (new system not many games yet). They do have a lot of stuff and don't hide the fact that this item costs this much instead of weird points(microsof t). I don't like the stores interface it seems to complicated compared to the 360 or the wii. I feel sony just needs to take a fresh look at their store and update the look and they will be right on par with any other store out there
