Next Generation consoles

The guys over at eBay have released some information on the PS3 and Wii regarding their pre-Christmas observations on the sale of next-gen consoles on the auction site. We all know that a few heartless people have tried to make money buying PS3s and selling them on eBay in preparation for Christmas, so these figures should be pretty interesting. How much would you pay for a PS3? Does $1,532.76 sound a bit too much? Here's the stats for the PS3:
  • The average sales price of PS3 is an astounding $1,532.76.  This marks a 200% and 155% increase over the projected MSRP of $499, for 20GB hard drive, and $599, for 60GB hard drive, respectively.
  • Some 1,181 PS3 systems sold in pre-sale on eBay.
  • The average sales price has increased 43.6%, from $1,423.12 on October 26 to $2,043.18 on November 8.  Purchasing the PS3 sooner rather than later will help buyers save big bucks.
If you think those figures are shocking, with a 200% increase in price (those heartless cowards) for the 20GB version, then you should see what the guys from eBay have to say about the Wii.
  • Some 2,165 units have been sold since October 20th, the day after it became available for pre-sale.  Demand is also represented by the 750.5% increase in sales since October 20th of individual items, such as games.
  • The average selling price on eBay is $552.71, which is 121% more than the MSRP of $250.
Now these figures are quite worrying for parents wanting to get their kids a PS3 or Wii for Christmas, with a lot of the demand being snapped up by budding entrepreneurs on eBay out to make a quick buck. Just think, is buying a console for up to 200% above it's MSRP worth it? If you can wait until your local store has one in stock, then we'd advise you to do so.

On a side note, eBay has also said that Microsoft's Xbox 360 isn't dead in the water yet. The console is still the second highest sought-after item on eBay.com using keyword searches, so maybe people are taking advantage of the PS3 and Wii launches to get themselves a bargain!

!

Well at least someones happy, with the PS3 at such at extreme high prices at the moment on ebay at least then this may even get people buying the xbox 360 more as the ps3 has shortages. The xbox 360 had the same problems but the ps3 has even higher prices.

Prices are insane! but that's good

I made $620 profit ordering a Japanese PS3 from Play Asia for $999 and selling on Ebay. Ebay took out over $100 in fees though. Bastards. Now I can get a free PS3 when they get back to normal prices.
