EB Games to Never Take Wii Pre-Orders?

WiiToday, I was at my EB looking for a gift for my cousin and figured I'd ask if Wii pre-orders were being taken yet. Seeing as I'd gotten the same answer the last few times (No), I expected the same again. However, I didn't get the same answer this time. I got an answer that was worse. The lady behind the counter said that they currently weren't taking pre-orders and they might not be taking them at all. There might be some pre-orders taken a month or two before launch, but as of this moment, there are no plans. This isn't good news. If you remember the Xbox 360 launch, getting a Wii or PS3 without a reservation might be troublesome.

You might want to try Toys R Us for a pre-order if this is the case. Toys R Us Canada is taking pre-orders for Nintendo Wii Bundles. It includes whatever comes in the Wii package + an extra controller + 2 games. They have been taking pre-orders since February. Shop around because it looks like EB and GameStop may not be the way to go this time around.

Well I was planning on buying one from an Ebgames next to where I live but if they dont do preorders I will be spending the night outside a bestbuy a couple times. Once for a Wii and once for a PS3. I think it ridiculous though. From a business standpoint it is suicide to not have preorders. Sure its a fiasco everytime they do it, and sure people will be waiting to get their preorder for a couple months. That however, is just how it works. Instead they are going to spread the amount of business they will be getting out amongst the rest of the businesses. After all I have said though, I would remind you that this is just what one lowly employee had to say, and should be treated as rumor for the time being.

Well every Eb store i have been to in my state in Australia is taking pre-orders and they have been taking them since the first announcement of the console(when it was called Revolution), then started getting more pre-orders when the new name of Wii came out.

she must have been pissed at you or something, cause all EB/GameStops i know have call lists to contact ppl as soon as they can or know when they can start taking preorders. they just wont take any untill the know an exact date it is comming out. i think as soon as nintendo says when they are launching the system it shouldnt be long after that that the stores start taking deposits

Ok, let an employee give you guys the lowdown. GameStops and EBs will be taking preorders on both the Wii and the PS3 as soon as we receive confirmation from Nintendo and Sony as to exactly how many units we will be receiving to sell at launch. This data will probably not be made available to us until the managers' conference in late September, so pre-orders will probably start then. If nothing else, just start calling and harrassing your local store in a few months as to whether or not they've started yet, but don't bet on anything happening before then.
