EA GamesOur source recently had an interview with EA's Senior Vice President, John Schappert. Basically, it was about the Wii, so let's take a look at what Mr. Schappert has to say about it, shall we?

First off, he says that when the Wii was announced by Nintendo, they "certainly scratched their heads and said, 'OK, well this is different.''' I guess when you're a developer you're pretty much used to kickass consoles that have offer kickass power and graphics and have equally kickass names like Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

And then, here comes the Wii, with its household-friendly name that even a grandma can remember.

Not only that, it also veers towards the "so-called traditional direction" new gaming consoles tend to go to, which is better graphics and power. Instead, Nintendo's baby offers fun!fun!fun! with its innovative motion-sensing controller. However, Schappert adds that he definitely sensed potential when he tried out the demos. He says that when he tried out Wii Sports, he was finally able to grasp what the Wii can offer to its users, and that "Nintendo has just done a great job with doing something different and catering its device to this unique controller, [and tailoring] its games around that, too."
