EarthBound 3 Translation localization dependent on EarthBound VC sales |
Ó
We guess you'll have to agree with us when we say that the EarthBound franchise isn't one of the more popular video game series out there. Its small but loyal fan base even believe that Nintendo has somewhat neglected it in favor of other well-known titles. However, Starmen.Net now reports that the fans hold the key on making Earthbound 3 Fan Translation available in markets outside Japan. Reportedly, staff members of the said site had a discussion with several representatives from Nintendo of America the past day.
Starmen mentioned that NoA is indeed excited about EarthBound 3 and is looking forward to try it. So where does the fan base fits into all these? According to Starmen, one of the EarthBound titles will be making its way to the U.S. Virtual Console and if it sells well, NoA will then strongly consider to localized EarthBound 3. Starmen noted:
Get every Wii owner you know to buy a copy of the game. Announce the game's release on your favorite forums. Put up posters at the mall or your local gaming haunt. Every single thing you can do to put the name "EarthBound" into people's heads will pay off in the end, no matter how insignificant it might seem.
Nintendo of America has yet to make an official announcement when the EarthBound game on VC will go live. The closest thing we have to seeing EarthBound on Wii as of now is the appearance of Franklin Badge in Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

I love the Earthbound of "Mother" series.. I have no motivation to play the game if Nintendo has to extort people to basically bribe them into releasing it here.
They couldnt be bother releasing the original NES title. I was happy to play the fan translation emulated for free.
They couldnt be bothered releasing #3 when I bought Earthbound back in like '94.
Now they want us to buy it again and they're CONSIDER bringing it to the US.. but first we have to track down Wii's to do it?... Uh.. No.. F0ck you.
Release it on a system I can get my hands on and I'll think about it. Otherwise, I'll just wait for it to be emulated, like the original.
It's because more people played it on emulator then bought it there doing this. The game sold like crap in the US despite a huge ad campaign. Why release a game no one will buy? They just want proof that people will buy the game this time...
lame lame lame
For the record, I bought the Earthbound cart in the big box with the included guide with the scratch 'n sniff cards at the back.. totally worth it. I never knew about the original until years later. I read about the third in Nintendo Power and waited and waited as it was pushed back and pushed back and pushed back then finally cancelled. I certainly never wanted to resort to emulation.
The funny thing about this, is that it's a fan translation.. They cant even be bothered to translate it themselves to release it.. All these years of neglect and now they're trying make amends by further neglecting the IP...
one of the most original rpgs ever..and my personal fav of all time(not counting ff7).
What is with all this negativity? They're finally giving us a chance to show how much we love this game - how much it means to us - and all we have to do is put down 8 bucks. We even get the game again to display in the Wii menu, like a badge of honor! As if to say, "I supported Earthbound. I am a true fan, willing to give part of my hard-earned money to help bring the third game to America."
They're giving us this chance to do it right, and all of you are just going to waste it?
wouldnt this be earthbound 2, not 3?
