Electronic Arts hinted at one of the two unannounced titles being developed under the EA Sports Freestyle label, which seems to be none other than a fitness game utilizing the Nintendo Wii and its balance board. According to EA Sports president Peter Moore, western moms better prepare to get sweaty.During the three-day EA Sports showcase event in Vancouver, Moore was quoted saying:
We think we have to have a role to play with that mum - the kids have gone to school, she's got 45 minutes on her own, the Wii is there, it's the first console she's ever liked because she can do things herself.
EA Sports' head honcho then explained his crew is "watching very closely what the Wii Fit board does," and that they're "working on stuff." Unlike Nintendo's lighter approach with activities focused on balancing weight, however, Moore intends to deliver a more active experience.
"We need to look more at western fitness in which I can actually be moving and start to sweat a little bit, and that's what we're working on right now," he said after comparing Wii Fit to eastern Tai-Chi.
That doesn't mean EA Sports Freestyle's offering will be for the gym buffs, though, because Moore stressed fun is necessary to distract consumers and get them moving their bodies. "We need to distract people and not make this exercise feel like work, but like they're having fun."
To top it all, Moore expressed his confidence in EA Sports. Talking about fitness activities made fun with minigames using the Wii, he asked, "who better than us to go and play in that market?
