EA says never say never to Boom Blox going multiplatform |
Ó
"Never say never," so said EA Bright Light Studio chief Harvey Elliot on the matter of Steven Spielberg's entry into the gaming world, Boom Blox. Although the game has definitely captured the spirit of the Wii, it most certainly can be ported to other platforms as well given its high success rate.
"I wouldn't rule anything out, never say never," said Elliot.
Why I think Boom Blox has really worked is that it captured the spirit of the Wii. It's about the motion control, it's about throwing a ball or throwing an object. I can't imagine that on other devices at the moment. There's something very physical about it. Right now, I'm really proud that it's stayed focused on the Wii and I think it's the right thing. Who knows for the future.
As to the future of the franchise (the sequel to the original also received raving reviews from the critics, and sales are described as "slow but steady"), Elliot said that it's probably not too far off. After all, they did immensely enjoy making this one.
What they would want to do in the future would be to watch the online community. "We've actually connected to online - you can create your levels, you download them, you play them and upload your own. I want to see what happens there and then we'll make some decisions."
At the end of the day, he's not worried about their team running out of ideas. "I just want to make sure we make something special."

..would benefit greatly if this was ported/sequeled on other platforms. This is the one game I happily dust my wii down to play, great game.
