EA predicts 2008 hardware sales, expects PS3 to be on top |

Electronic Arts released a file containing its predictions of hardware sales, and while the Nintendo Wii is still believed to sell the most consoles, the Sony PlayStation 3 appeared on top the Microsoft Xbox 360 on EA's list expected fiscal year 2008 numbers. Most notably, EA apparently expects the Sony PS3 to be ahead of the Xbox 360 in Europe and outsell it three to one.For the first two quarters of fiscal year 2008, Electronic Arts foresees a tight fight in North America with the PS3 and Xbox 360 each selling 4.5 million units on Q1 and 5.5 million units in Q2. The Nintendo Wii is not far ahead with 5.5 million units and 6.5 units million on Q1 and Q2, respectively, while EA has hopes that the PS2 can still move a total of 4.9 million units in the U.S.
Europe is where EA expects Sony to enjoy a lead over Microsoft, as the company anticipates the PlayStation 3 to sell 5 million units in Q1, then 6 million come Q2.The Microsoft Xbox 360, which sold 1.9 million units in Q4 2007 according to NPD data, may experience a slight drop to 1.5 million if EA hits the mark. Around 2.5 million units are believed to leave European shelves in Q2.
To sum it up, thanks to Sony's strong presence in Europe, EA predicts around 21 million PS3 consoles will be sold during the first half of 2008. Microsoft will only be able to expand its user base by 14 million in the same period. Nintendo's casual-friendly Wii is expected to take the win with 26 million, while the PS2 is not off the map with 8.8 million predicted sales.
On the other hand, EA's numbers foresee the Nintendo DS selling 30 million in the first half of 2008, leaving the Sony PSP's 14 million behind.

they sold more copies on ps3 thanks to the european market so of course theyll say something like that. And if this keeps up and actually focuses on the ps3 like burnout than they might actually see more profit of the ps3.
unless EA steps it up with the quality and performance of their games on the PS3, i don't see that happening.v EA's games have all been horribly worse on the PS3 with the exception of Burnout and COD4.. any thoughts?
PS3 will sell more, it's been predicted since the day it came out. We all knew it was coming, it's not surprise. The PS3 will be on top just as the PS2 was in it's generation.
When everyone is done riding the Wii's (small) balls, the PS3 will reign, just like it's predecessors.
i doubt the ps3 will ever surpass the wii. The wii appeals to a mass market the ps3 cant. These 2 consoles really aren't in direct competition. If you don't understand that, then you would be just like the CEO of sony, scratching their heads. "but or system is better, how are we losing?" Im glad nintendo decided to think outside the gamebox.
I guess it really all depends on what you consider surpassing. Console sales? Game sales? Revenue in general? Because if PS3 surpasses the 360, which is already surpassing the Wii in game sales, won't it then be surpassing the Wii as well?
the X360 does not surpass the Wii.. Maybe in the USA, but not in the rest of the world. I'm pretty sure PS3 will surpass the 360, but 3-to-1 is a bit too optimistic, I think. Rather something like 2-to-1. The Wii will hold the first position, simply because of two reasons: 1. the price. 2. Different mass market. There are just more kids out there who will buy the Wii. Let's be just realistic. Who do you think has more time to play? A 10-year old kid or a 19-year old student?
on almost everything he says apart from the fact that cod4 is EA, cod4 is activision!!! but hes right about everything else though!!
i own a 360 and i still believe that the wii will come out untop cause of the targeted audience, but the ps3 will never surpass the xbox360 tho...its just not logical..it just isnt...lol
if the xbox 360 did not break as much as it does it would probobaly be on top right now because it is barely behind the and if the PS3 drops to $300 It will probably be on top but that will never happen.And by the way these predictions are made by companys giving money to make there company look good.

Dude, this "Wii has a weak Game attach rate" crap needs to stop. The Wii has a 8.1 gaming attach rate which is higher than both the XBOX360 @ 7.6 and PS3 @ 5.04. http://wii.ign.com/articles/847/847472p1.html
