As part of its plans to recover from the losses it sustained recently, Electronic Arts is turning to the most popular console of this generation: the Nintendo Wii.

EA CEO John Riccitiello has told investors that it intends to "rival Nintendo on their own platform" by increasing its focus on the Wii. "Nintendo is the leader; they're getting half our emphasis in terms of title counts," said Riccitiello.

A new tennis franchise from EA Sports and the fitness line EA Sports Active will be headlining the assault. The company will also be looking to snare the Wii's core audience by bringing "core intellectual property" like Dead Space to the platform.

Concerning the Dead Space port, Riccitiello emphasized that it won't be weak at all, although I'm inclined to believe that he means atmospherically speaking. "It is absolutely going to be the quality of fear factor of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions," he said.

Hmm. More fodder for MediaWatch UK and other watchdog groups that want the Wii to retain its family-friendly image I suppose. I guess the Pfeiffer siblings will be getting ready for more name calling as well.

"It is absolutely going to be the quality of fear factor of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions,"

Not possible due to Wii's lack of true surround sound, HD, graphical capabilities and processing power. Dumbing down the graphical detail will decrease it's fear factor. The audio engine ran 4 separate music tracks playing simultaneously altering the tempo/volume of each on the fly in a very complex manner that the Wii wouldn't be able to handle. The devs attributed a large amount of the fear effect to their audio engine. Dead Rising has shown us Wii can't handle very many enemies and there are scenes in Dead Space with a lot of enemies. Decreasing enemies = less fear effect. Sorry, but they'd be better off making some Metroid-ish side scroller for the DS/Wii than dumbing down the PS3/360 versions. They'd just ruin a good thing.

who said that it will be a port? Maybe they are making a completely new game. And don't tell me the Wii can't handle such a game or atmosphere. Resident Evil 4 was also on Wii and that was creepy as hell.

resident evil

for ps1 is still pretty scary by todays standards because graphics don't make a game scary
