The Godfather 2 - Image 1Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitello attended the William Blair & Company's investor meeting last Tuesday where he let slip a few details about the Godfather video game franchise.

The first point is that a new game in the series is being developed (something we already knew from before). The second is that it features GTA-style gameplay with pseudo-RTS style elements.

At this point, your eyebrows have probably shot up at the second point. Now amidst the shouts of "WTF!" I present to you the a quote from Riccitello as he described how the game plays:

You can play this game both at the street level, much like a GTA-style game, but you can also play it top-down, almost like you're in an RTS, controlling the strategy of the boroughs so you can see what's going on...

To be honest, we have no idea how the developers from EA's Redwood Shores plan on pulling this off and making it accessible, but it is an interesting concept. We're pretty sure more details will be revealed in the future, so we'll just wait for a more detailed explanation before making any judgments.

That'll be cool if they do it like that old PC game...I think it was called Gangsters (and #2) You could promote people, choose jobs for them to do, choose weapons and then help them get rid of some heat if it came upon them

» Hmm

Well good to see a new sequel. I really liked the first Godfather game, even if it was a GTA clone. Had alot of good gameplay in it. And the enemy base take over battles were excellent.

I still wish EA would bugger off and stop trying to take over Take 2 though.

» Godfather Part II!

It could have the flashbacks and everything... but in the flashbacks, you controlled your guy's father, and in the present, you're your guy again. Then again, how could they implement you into the story again? I'm pretty sure you end up as the godfather...

Nonetheless, I'll be looking forward to this one. Especially if it plays like Blackhand... just with better driving, more varied missions, etc.
