Duke Nukem movie in the works, headed by Max Payne film producer |
In the news today, Uwe Boll was assigned to work on the movie adaptation of Duke Nukem...... Kidding.
But seriously though, there is a Duke Nukem movie in the works. The project is led by Scott Faye, the producer behind the Max Payne movie.
Nothing's solid yet. Right now, Faye is working with 3D Realms' Scott Miller to develop a scenario for the movie, so they don't just go into it half-cocked:
I'm working diligently at making a Duke Nukem movie scenario that will live up to the character and its import in the videogame world. As is the case with all of my game adaptations, I'd rather not make the movie than make a poor adaptation.
With the two new games coming out based on Duke Nukem, I'm working at establishing a Duke film scenario that will compel a studio to finance a feature version. Certainly, there's a large audience that knows and loves this character.
We're expanding Duke's ‘storyverse’ in a very significant major way
without abandoning or negating any element that's being used to
introduce Duke to the next gen platforms.
[...] Why go out of your way to acquire an IP is you're not going to use as much of it as you can in the adaptation process? Of course, a game is a game and a film is a film, and decisions need to be made, as is the case in any adaptation. But itÂ’s important to be true to the source material.
Considering how long it took for the Max Payne movie to come together though, we may have to wait a while to see how he'll proceed with Duke Nukem. He is also currently working on the movie adaptation for American McGee's Alice.

who could play THE Duke Nukem?
Any ideas?
He's the only one that could fit in this role, after all the Die Hard movies!
Also; Since the Pax Payne trailer is awesome, and I WANT to see it, it's cool that he'll continue doing games movies!
Bruce Campbell!!
Having experience in the entertainment industry I see a real potential problem with the making of this movie.
It may very well be an NC-17 or at the worst an R rating.
No, I didn't get that backwards. Here's why... the game as I remember it is pretty racist (against the alien hordes) and wonderfully sexist (sorry, I mean horribly, yeah).
As history has shown with Hollywood, unless you cater to the sniveling little snots (about the age of gah to 12) you won't make any money. I don't agree with that, but the money whores swear by the formula.
Then there is a horde of directors that feel that they need to make the movie fit a particular view that they 'wanted' to see the character take. Never reflecting what the original developers did/wanted or what the audience has already defined the character to be.
The days of directors telling Hollywood to consume a rodent's posterior is long over. Personally, I would make the thing as visceral and balls forward, bigger than life as the character was originally intended to be.
NC-17 be damned, I would go into it knowing that the movie would make its money over the long haul with younger, newer fans coming on board as they got older to appreciate what the Nukem series was about.
