gamer's eyesToo much gaming, as you all know by now, is bad, bad, bad for you. Video games are particularly hard on the eyes. According to an article by Andrew Bermam in Tech Zone, "Flash graphics, rapid-fire movements, and long hours at the console result in health problems like muscle and eye strain. Common ailments resulting from gaming are: lateral epicondylitis, tendonitis, bursitis, and carpel tunnel syndrome among others."

Among others? You mean there's more? If that didn't scare you, you must already be numb and cross-eyed from too much gaming. We posted an article called "Tips On How To Avoid 'Xbox Vision', 'Nintendonitis', And Other Gaming-Related Discomforts". We hope you didn't turn a blind eye to it!

Here are more tips to keep gaming safe, especially for your eyes.
  • Blink your eyes to lubricate it. We doubt you could lose the game to blinking every now and then.
  • Ask your eye doctor to prescribe artificial tears that will moisten your eyes. Or you can pull out a nose hair every now and then to make your eyes well up.
  • At least 6-8 times a day, rub the palms of your hands together and press them on your eyes. Hold themthere for a few minutes. The warmth of your palms will relax the eye muscles. A warm hotpack may also do the trick if you rhands have turned into horrible claw-like things after hours of gaming.
  • Greenery soothes eyes, so glance as often as you can at green trees, bushes, or plants. You can also watch the horror classic The Exorcist. Lots of green colored stuff streaming out of Linda Blair's throat there.
  • Do simple Yoga eye strengthening exercises. Don't worry you don't have to sit, painfully, like a circus contortionist. Roll your eyes, focusing on your nose and then the area between your eyebrows. Shift your balls (you eyeballs, we mean, we never tire of that line) from left to right. Was that too hard?
  • Get a qualified eye doctor (not your bestfriend) to check your vision and find out whether you need “computer glasses.” If you use contact lenses, doctors say take them off and use glasses instead.
  • Bug your parents to buy you HDTV. Screens with sharper images and greater clarity are gentler to the eyes. If they say no, remind them that prevention of CVS (Computer Vision Syndrome) is a hundred times better than any cure after a problem occurs. Of course it could backfire, they could take away your console, instead.

I got caught by that *****, i have glasses with -1,75 power each eye. It really sucks, and the only cure now is the laser thingie, but im waiting for something more safe... like maybe some pills which control hormones which could revert the eyes back to normal or so, ***** i hope so

I was perscribed a console

When i was young. I had surgery twice on my eyes. My eye doctor prescribed a console (atari 2600) to strenthen my eye muscles after surgery, and I have 20/20 vision now.

WHO GETS THAT!

I been playing games since Atari days then Amiga then every console since apart from the gamecube.. I got perfect eyesight.. I recon its not the playing of games for hours on end its playing games in the dark for hours on end that makes peoples eyes weird the only time my eyes hurt are playing in the dark so i just turn a light on.

Light

After playing for hours my eyes have now taken the toll, i need to wear glasses and my eyes are very sensitive to light, if I go out on a bright sunny day it actually makes my eyes hurt like hell.

Ahhh im screwed

Ive been playing games for 7-8 years. My eyes are $#&$# up. -1.50 both eyes. I guess this is true for some people, and not for others since they still have perfect eye sight. Or maybe its cuz im on the computer a lot...

...

Yeah i've been playing vids all my life, and I have contacts/glasses....but so does my mom and younger sister, who never play vids at all... I think it's talking more about your muscles and the possible wear and tear put on them (i'm only 26 so even if i've added 10 yrs to 'em they are not that bad, but if that's the case, what's up when we are 40-50) It's all good, i've got a big bag of green sitting by me at all times, so I can look at it and relax my eyes....hehe

Wait a sec...

there is only 1 part of the quote that says eye strain. lateral epicondylitis = Tennis Elbow tendonitis = Inflation of tendons like shoulders, wrists, elbows. Bursitis = Inflamation around joints carpel tunnel syndrome = Progresive condition that damages the Median Nerve in the palm of your hand.
by Branden - 2006-07-26 15:49:13
your eyes are the most important thing you poses.

you guys think you have it bad my eyes are soo bad -8.5o in both eyes im gonna be like blind when im 40 im so f*ucked. For poel that wear glases and play games. stop after playing for like 2hours and take off your glases and look around let your eyes recoup. because they strain looking threw them.

Video games?

pssh... Video games don't affect your vision. Everyone knows that the only thing that can blind you is excessive masturbation. Hush404 stop shifting your balls!!1!!
