Are you gearing up for the next Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter competition? Do you just hate losing to your kid sister in every video game you play with her? The key to better performance could be the stuff you stuff in your mouth. Many food experts believe diet plays a big role in mental alertness. Mental alertness can be especially important for getting those precious points.

We took the time to put together a menu of food do's and don'ts for all you video gamers out there who are running out of excuses for losing. So along with practice, pay close attention to your video gaming diet.

If you're playing in the morning, the trick is to fuel your body with carbs and proteins for energy and stamina. Since your body hasn't had any for the past 9 to 12 , your blood sugar level is low. Studies have linked low blood sugar levels to poor memory, concentration, and learning. The right breakfast can kick start your body and mind into high gear.

breakfastBreakfast foods that keep your brain on its toes:
  • Low-fat cottage cheese
  • Yogurt
  • Scrambled eggs (yolks and whites)
  • Veggie burgers (finally, a reason to eat them)
  • Peanut butter
  • Whole-grain toast
  • Cereals and muffins eaten with protein
Breakfast foods that turn your brain into mush:
  • Croissants
  • Bagels with cream cheese
  • Doughnuts
  • Frozen Waffles
  • Soft drinks
If you're playing in the afternoon, eat a high-octane fuel packed lunch to recharge your system and keep you going, going going like the Energizer Bunny.

Lunch fare that keeps the afternoon blahs away:
  • Chicken and turkey
  • Seafood
  • lunchTuna
  • Lean burgers
  • No-fat lunch meats
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Bread, buns, or rolls with protein
  • Greens and other vegetables
  • Tofu and legumes
Lunch items for that you snooze, you lose feeling:
  • French fries
  • Cola and other sodas (you may get a momentary shot mental alertness but the sugar high brings you back down quickly)
  • Dairy
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Meat
If you're playing at night, your choice of dinner greatly affects your concentration and stamina. Unless you're part-owl, you are designed to sleep at night. The food you eat could either keep you awake or put you in deep slumber.

Dinner to keep you up and about:
  • Caffeine-containing foods
  • Spicy or gassy foods
  • Fatty foods (they take longer to digest and can keep you awake)
  • Pizzas and other high sodium food (sodium makes you thirsty and you know how that keeps you up)
  • Artificial sweeteners
Dinner for snoozers:
  • dinnerPotatoes
  • Pasta
  • Vegetables
  • Beans and rice
  • Dairy products
  • Soy products
  • Seafood
  • Meats
  • Poultry
  • Rice
  • Hazelnuts, peanuts
  • Eggs
  • Sesame seeds, sunflower seeds
If practice and the right diet doesn't improve your game, hey, may be you just suck at it. Just kidding! There's one more thing that could make you the video champ of the world. No, not cheating but rest! But that's for another article.

Sounds like BS

I eat mostly the foods they tell you NOT to eat to play good, and none of my friends can beat me in any game, ever...

Maybe because

Your friends uberly suck, and you really are not that great of a gamer - anyone could school your ass. Besides the fact that you are a dumb"ass" and think just because you say it, its true.
