Nintendo Slapped With Strap Lawsuit Once Again - Image 1This just isn't Nintendo's year. How many times have they been sued now? I can't keep count anymore.

This time they may be facing a class-action lawsuit, a.k.a, the angry mob with broken television sets because of faulty Wiimote straps.

This is familiar territory for Nintendo. They've been sued for the same thing way back in 2006, within weeks of the Wii's release. The carnage of broken TV sets across the country caused Nintendo to offer replacement straps for over 3.2 million Wiimotes.

While that seemed to have solved the problem, it seems the issue persists until today. Colorado resident Molly Elvig, who filed the class-action lawsuit, accuses Nintendo of covering up evidence from the Consumer Product Safety Commission that the Wiimote is still on its serial spree of breaking TV sets:

Despite actual knowledge of hundreds of incidents involving broken televisions over time and subsequent to December 27, 2006. The defendant [Nintendo] failed to report the existence of even a single ‘Incident’ to the CPSC in its Monthly Reports to the CPSC.

Although I'm sure that some of the "incidents" she mentioned were actually caused by negligence to actually wear the strap, I am concerned that Nintendo didn't report the ones that were caused by faulty straps. Unless I believe that every strap they issued since their last lawsuit didn't break, which I don't.

Yet another lawsuit. What's next? They gonna sue them because the batteries went dead? "The packaging says the batteries would work for 5 hours of continuous play, but I only got 4 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds, I'm gonna sue!!!"

I have found the strap to be decently strong, combined with the silicone jacket there is no reason anyone but a true Wii-tard would have reason to let go of it or somehow break the strap.

However, the strap is the least of the Wii's problems. Has anyone checked out the latest Wii releases?

If Nintendo gets sued over anything, it should be the horrible quality of the licensed games for it!

... as of late, I agree with Mister Common Sense. There are very few top-notch titles recently released or on the way... especially exlusives (which is the only way the Wii will ever have the "best version" of any game... except Shaun White Snowboarding). Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars is awesome, and Madworld is on the way. Oh yeah, No More Heroes 2 is going to be Wii exclusive.... other than that, I'm really not looking forward to much of anything much less than a year away, unfortunately. And aside from World of Goo, WiiWare has proven to be pretty much crap too; there are a few good games, but they're very far between.
