Dead Space: Extraction underwhelms in sales, EA not disappointed? |
Ó
Dead Space Extraction moved an underwhelming 9,000 units for the first week of its release, September 29 through October 3. This was revealed in NPD's software sales report. Jesse Divinich of EEDAR, however, says that Electronic Arts probably saw that one coming."Electronic Arts didn't market Dead Space Extraction as much as it does with other titles," said Divnich. "And the success or failure of a Wii title usually correlates directly to marketing spend. If Electronic Arts spent little on marketing, I am sure the sell through was no surprise to them. So I do not believe sell through was a disappointment to EA."
Divinich pressed the issue further, stating that given the trend of Wii games getting a flatter sales curve, "I don't think 20,000 plus units is out of the question for October and maybe we get a holiday bump in November and December."
Dead Space Extraction got raving reviews, but this apparently did not glow enough to catch the eye of gamers.

It probably would have sold better as a guncon3 game on PS3. Then later patched to support the motion controller.
At least PS3 actually has the target audience that likes this kind of game
Too many kids have Wii. But if what happened to the people who had Resident Evil 4 on the wii! they should have bought this! LOL
Can any M Rated title ever sell well on a Nintendo console? China Town Wars tested out the DS, and now Dead Space gave it a go on the Wii. Both have lackluster sales.
It's a mature game for the Wii, what did they expect?
Good sales?
How many examples do the developers need until they get that mature games for Nintendo won't sell?
MadWorld?
Dead Space: Extraction?
GTA - Chinatown Wars?
Resident Evil 4?
The Conduit?
should I go on?
All these games are great games, but they ended up having dismal sales.
that the majority of Wii owners are casual gamers that are only interested in a few select games (most play Nintendo only games and Guitar Hero). Very few hardcore gamers have the Wii as their only console and therefore buy the next gen versions if available.
Stick with party games EA and you will be fine.
I knew of the existence of the game, I'll go pick it up, since i liked dead space on 360
