It should be remembered that video game designer and God of War creator David Jaffe pondered a few days ago about a futuristic scenario where the video game industry is revolving around just one platform.

Some of his points were valid and were worthy of consideration that some even thought Jaffe was indeed rooting for that scenario. However, all that Jaffe did was to present the idea to the public and left it open for debate.

As a result of this misunderstanding, David Jaffe updated the blog post reiterating that he was open for being educated on the subject. To better understand his position and to avoid further miscommunication, here's a video clip of Jaffe talking about the matter.

Cool...

I think he answered his own question - the internet allows people anonymity, and that's the end of social boundries. I've been to anime conventions where I've seen some of the most venemous, outspoken ass-holes I've ever read on newsgroups turn out to be weedy, socially repressed nobodies. And when I read a post that's overly negative that's the image I get of them.

This guy's totally right though... there is no reason whatsoever for some of the hate-speech and arseyness of oh-so-many forumites and blog-watchers... Anonymity can be a great thing, but in most cases it certainly seems like more of an excuse to get away with being a d!ck. Playful banter and disagreements are what add colour to the internet, and to see it disappear completely would be a real shame, but perhaps if more people realised that they're talking with other PEOPLE and treated them with at least some basic respect, then the internet would be a far more pleasant place to visit.
