Datel explains how the Wii Freeloader works |
Ó
As a recap, you guys will probably recall that Datel released their long-awaited Freeloader disc for the Nintendo Wii at the end of last month. While this is certainly big news for the guys hoping to finally run imports on their console, it does beg the question: How'd Datel pull it off?Or perhaps more importantly, how do they plan to ensure that the previous lockout incident that afflicted their previous Freeloader release won't repeat itself? Courtesy of a letter from the company's press wire (via an inquiry from the NeoGAF dudes), we've picked up a detailed explanation:
Dear Customer,
Further to your email we can confirm that on every occasion that the product is used when the disc is inserted in the console that it allows the usage of any imported Wii game discs and disables the console from been able to update its firmware, if the disc is removed after been inserted and reinserted this will again enable the console to update its firmware but still allow the usage of the any imported Wii game discs.
While Datel's explanation does explain how they've managed to successfully worked around (or rather, through) updates, it does make us wonder how Nintendo might be reacting to this news in the near future. Stick around in case we receive any updates.

It doesn't explain what we're meant to do with the disk after a firmware update blocks its ID in a few weeks.
nintendo will make an update that will stop you from useing the shopping channel weather channel ect. untill you update, which will block the disk again, maybe nintendo wont really care, as it will mean more sales for them in the long run, hopefully they dont block it, im waiting for an update befor i buy this, or maybe i wont, and ill sell my cube
Yeah.. I'm waiting before i get this. I really don't want to wait til... June? To get SSB though :( Hmm... maybe i'll chip
