DA's office found no criminal activity in Hold your Wee for a Wii contest |
Ó
And here's the latest on the Hold your Wee for a Wii incident that took the life of 28-year-old mother Jennifer Strange. The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office has concluded their investigation on the circumstances surrounding 107.9 KDND FM's The Morning Rave contest and found that no criminal activity took place. As such, no criminal charges will be filed against the radio station nor any of its employees.According to the DA's office, "The facts and circumstances of this ill-fated event do not support the filing of criminal charges... Based on the evidence, no duty or special relationship existed or was created between the radio station and/or employees and Jennifer Strange because of the contest."
As a voluntary participant, Jennifer Strange was assumed to have known the nature of the contest she was getting herself into, and that she had the prerogative to discontinue with the contest at any time. The contest Hold your Wee for a Wii had the participants drinking water every fifteen minutes, with the one able to hold his/her bladder the longest being the winner of Nintendo's Wii. Jennifer Strange took in almost two gallons of water, and was later found to have died because of water intoxication.
Meanwhile, the Strange family's attorney revealed that the DA's office is not in the least bit surprising. Says Roger Dreyer, "We do not believe the conduct of the individuals rose to criminal intent. It is consistent with our viewpoint from the beginning that the decision maker responsible was the management of Entercom."
The family has already filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the radio station's management, seeking compensation for lost income and family's loss of Jennifer's care and comfort.
It is our hope that this case finally gets closed so she can now rest in peace.

It looks like the courts actual are assigning responsibility to the victim. Seems good to me. Any reasonable person knows that holding your pee after a while hurts... And that a water ballon if filled too much will pop. Or they could look at the history of Tycho Brahe, not only did he get his nose chopped off, but the common belief was that he died from a burst bladder because he could not leave the Russian Czars table (to go #1), and every time the Czar drank, well, everyone did. Really though, I hope more judges are this sensible because you make choices and you live with them. Recent rulings have been down right rediculous.
