Hayden Tenno's mutated right arm featured in Digital Extremes' Dark Sector - Image 1D3 Publisher of America's Dark Sector (Xbox 360, PS3) is a gory action game developed by Digital Extremes featuring its own in-house game engine, Evolution. These were the basic concepts discussed when VideoGamer.com was able to talk to some of the developers behind the game.

Because the game made use of its own versatile and powerful game engine, it was confirmed by Dark Sector Associate Producer Dave Kudirka that the possibility of a PC or Wii version of the game is entirely plausible.

The stunning visuals that the game has to offer definitely looks like something that can be translated onto the PC. However, for the less graphics-intensive Wii this may be an entirely different story all together.

Kudirka explained the development of Evolution by saying:

We developed the Evolution engine in house at Digital Extremes. It's got all the bells and whistles you'd expect of a next-gen engine plus a few more we've thrown in to raise the bar. The biggest strength is our ability to compile the game simultaneously on Xbox 360 and PS3. Of course there's challenges. Each system is a little bit different in its hardware. But the Evolution engine has made a lot of that work really easy. The chaps back at the studio have put a lot of time into it.

There were also some issues with critics mentioning that Dark Sector seems to have become a Gears of War (Xbox 360, PC) clone. Kudirka, however, mentions that the game has enough differences to set it apart from Gears of War.

While both games may fall under the third-person action shooter genre, Dark Sector's character development doesn't rely on picking up bigger and badder weapons to make your character grow in strength. Instead, Hayden Tenno literally evolves during the course of the game, setting him apart from the other games of the same genre.

Kudirka actually found it a compliment when some people said that Evolution looked too much like Unreal Engine 3. Considering the hard work the developers put into making it, he mentions that they wanted to make a name for themselves and show everyone what they can do as well.
