Nintendo doesn't care

It's never been done before, a "new" console that isn't available anywhere for 16 months after launch. No matter what the demand of the PS2 was, you could find one in stores 4 months after launch. The N64 had heavy demand, but those were too available only a few months after launch. Nintendo knew of the Wii demand, yet chose to leave production low 6 months ago. They will likely continue this intentional shortage (while lying about the reasons for it) until next christmas where they can release the warhoused consoles and have big sales again this holiday. You would have to be stupid to think this shortage was unintentional. Consumers and retailers agree everywhere. Nintendo sucks, they're using you.

I agree with "this writer's opinion". This drought should have been toast a while ago. I mean there's nothing particularly limiting when it comes to Wii production. Nothing is particularly expensive or difficult to manufacture(if I'm wrong please correct me). But I guess they don't want the Wii going the way of the Cube and have sales stagnate soon. They'll just trickle in first party games(which are what almost single-handedly keep them alive) as they trickle in consoles. Hell, kudos to them, because it's working.

This article is total BS! The title says "retailers" with an "S" yet there is only ONE employee making this comment. Further it's a WALMART employee!!! If Nintendo was faking a shortage then how do they STILL SELL MORE then anyone else? Let's break it down: Every day 100 360's are sold. Every day 150 PS3's are sold. Every day 200 Wii's are sold. In order for sales figures to be what they are, the above "example" MUST HOLD TRUE. That means every day Wii's are being sold. PERIOD!!!! They are shipping and they are selling. More then any other console might I add. A faked "shortage" is a physical impossibility. The only possibility is high demand. Let's also not forget that the Wii has the lowest percentage of bad consoles. So not only are they putting out MORE then anyone else can they are doing it with very high quality assurance. Let's also not forget that the PS3 is outselling the 360 well into it's third month! Nintendo did sell many more Wiis during the holidays. Did they increase production just for that then lower it again? HELL NO! They're storing them and going to release them either for the holidays or when Mario Kart comes out. You would have to be an idiot to not realize this (isohaven.) Just check out the line graph on the vgcharts site for Wii sales and you can see how much higher the sales are around christmas. I really don't care if the PS3 or XBOX 360 sells better since I have both and they're real next gen systems. The 360 will bounce back when they announce the price cut. Smash Brothers didn't work on some Wiis and Nintendo lied and blamed it on dirty lasers only they can clean to hide the fact there are defective Wiis that can't read dual layer discs. Holding Consoles

To those that say, "Wiis are being held back to build hype." Have you maybe considered that its the retailer holding them? Which I believe happens on a minor scale. It keeps the consumers coming back to the store. Plus it benefits the retail the most if they have a hug lot of them on holidays. Getting more customers to go to their store. The Wii doesn't need any more Hype! Damn old people in retirement homes are buying them now. Nothing against old people. Honestly, its cool. I also bet that the Wal-Mart rep doesn't even know how the Wii 's gets to his store.
