Custom IOS36 rev 04 |
Ó

Waninkoko has rolled out another update to his custom firmware installer for the Wii, Custom IOS. A couple of functions have been dropped in the code, but the major change is the switch of the IOS base, which is now 36 instead of 37. Here's the changelog for this version:
[CIOS36 rev 04]:
- The base is now IOS36 IOS.
- Dropped check id in the title role ES_OpenTitleContent ().
- Dropped checking permits in the function ES_ReadContent ().

What does this do exactly?
so far? nothing. It opens the doors for other coders to make apps or games that run off it. But, unless something is coded to specifically use the functions included or purposely excluded it will just sit dormant on your system.
Waninkoko has created a custom DVD dumper that uses his OLD ios37. But since this has a new call number the old homebrews will have to be changed as well.
The thought is that eventually someone will create a cIOS that allows you to bypass the disk ID check, which will allow you to run burned backups without a mod chip...... OR (my wish) is for a custom homebrew app that would be a channel. It will access a USB HDD and run ISO images off that HDD without ever using the DVD drive again!
Till that day I watch and wait
"Till that day I watch and wait "
hey Stinky, that makes us two. :)
i'll third that
add me to that list
Make homebrew stop working, in many cases.
Apart from that? Nada.
Not sure how it would BREAK currently working homebrew. The homebrew coded already would be running off either cIOS37 or just regular IOS's currently on the wii. By adding another it does NOT break anything else, it just allows one more option when you are writing your homebrew.
The problem is that a lot of people do not trust cIOS's made by waninkoko so for the most part nobody else is using them for their code to run off. Which is why it would not be breaking anything.
Think of it like a blue ray player. I have a ps3 in my living room. it runs movies and plays games. Ifg I buy a blue ray player for the bedroom does it make my blue rays stop playing in the living room? no! It just gives me the option to use one or the other. I dont HAVE to use the PS3 anymore. Also, maybe the new one adds features that I could not use on the PS3, so there is advantages to using the stand alone unit.
Same with cIOS. If it has features coded into it that you wish to use you can use cIOS36. If you dont need any of those features, just access a legit IOS and HOPE that ninty does not patch it.
The big problem I see coming is that as soon as an ISO loader is made that uses ANY cIOS or legit IOS ninty will patch it, or make a system update that removes the custom one. For that reason it makes sense to have a few extra cIOS's sitting on your system. it allows more back doors that ninty must remove. Eventually they could lock out the whole system, so the more back doors you have to open it back up the better. I have yet to see a BAD side to having this on your system. And lots of good sides.
I am interested to know which homebrew is NOT working once you put this on though. I dont think you can name one.
