Console shortage could linger until March |

It's quite possible that people still trying to get their hands on a PS3 or Wii will have to wait until after March of next year just so their next-gen console of choice becomes less harder to find than it is now.
For PS3 fans, the wait might have to be longer. American Technology Research analyst Paul-Jon McNealy says that the PS3 will likely remain scarce through the June quarter. "They have to launch in Europe, and they're stretched," said McNealy. Supplies of the Wii, on the other hand, could pick up in the March quarter according to McNealy.
PS3 shipments for this shopping season were small and sporadic according to a dozen Southern California stores. The numbers ranged from as few as one or two units to 25 ("We get 1 or 2 every week to week and a half," said one Los Angeles GameStop employee). Whatever the numbers, though, shoppers inevitably snapped the available units up almost as soon as they arrived. The same thing is happening to Wii consoles.
So what's expected to be the bestselling console this season? The PS2, which has already sold more than 106 million units globally.

Yeah it's sad, I'd like to be able to walk into a store and buy one those newer gen console without any hassle but until that happens...
but yeah the ps2 is still strong and will still be in ~2 years when it will start losing to it's newcomer the ps3

Best Buy received major shipments this week on the PlayStation 3s. Some stores received well over 100. Some stores sold the excess stock of them, but most are holding them for the December 31st ad to sell.
I'd say that sounds readily available to me...
I mean, last 18 ( december ) every shop around my house received tons of ps3 :| ( 20 for futureshop, around the same for bestbuy, and the EBgames had around 10-15 units!!
Some sellers even walked to me just to say that if I want a ps3 60g, they just received a batch right now ( last 18 I was at the futureshop ( in canada only, but have almost anything at a REALLY LOWER price that bestbuy, ex: my new tv at bestbuy was ~630$ and at futureshop it was 499$ :S )
anyway, I saw 3 ps3 at EBgames yesterday, but I'm pretty sure they are 20gigs. But I'd say the ps3 will restock in january ( no more parents trying badly to buy this for their rich kids ). So we'll see more ps3
and I don't fear for the wii, I mean, they launched everywhere now, and they sold A LOT of units ( more than 3 millions ) so they will surely surpass the xbox 360 till mid 2k7 or end 2k7 max.
ps: I'm getting my ps3 in january if I can find one
