The following game companies are supporting Nintendo's Virtual Console system with their retro game titles. Not all of them will have titles ready for launch though, but expect these companies to add more games to the Wii's games list in the near future.

  • D4EVirtual Console
  • Atlus
  • Bandai Namco Games
  • Banpresto
  • Capcom
  • Chun Soft
  • Enterbrain
  • HAL Laboratory Inc.
  • Hudson
  • Irem
  • Jaleco
  • Kemco
  • Koei
  • Konami
  • Masaya
  • Net Farm
  • PAON
  • Rocket company
  • Sega
  • Taito
  • Takara Tomy
  • Tecmo
  • Sunsoft
  • Square Enix

  • These are established companies with awesome franchises. People are probably most excited about Square Enix being on board. Maybe a high quantity of downloads of games like Crono Trigger will help in getting another sequel? It was previously announced that games will be around $5 (NES), $8 (SNES), and $10 (N64). You will be able to pay by credit card or pre-paid cards. Nintendo wants to have 60 titles by the end of 2006 and then 10 new titles per month after that.

Wow thats a lot of support (especially love that SE jumped on board) but anyone else think that the Wii controllers interaction looks a bit dumb?

Im not hateing on the Wii in any sense, but it seemed pretty jittery and looked like it would become unconfortable pretty quickly.

Regardless, ill be picking one up to sit right next to my PS3 in november ^_^

With Enterbrain, maybe we'll see Fighter or RPG Maker on Wii.

I actually got to try the Wii out at E3 this year, and honestly, the controller was a totally underwelming gimmick and it did get old after a while. It wasn't nearly accurate enough either.

A lot's changed since E3 though. Just look at Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The guys at IGN are raving about the new Expert control system. They're saying it works better than a keyboard and mouse (arguably). The Wii-mote has gone through several revisions since E3 also.

If you want an underwelming gimmick just look at Sony's PS3 controller. Now THAT is a tacked on gimmick that will be utterly useless.

What you gotta understand that games are going to be using the controller in more sublte ways than the wii sports games will. You have to take into account that wii sports is a party game and a demo for what the controller is capable of in the terms of 1:1 interpretations of the players movement into the game. Not everysingle game for the Wii is going to be a party game.

Besides if you don't like using the Wii remote then quite a few games are being designed to just use the gamecube controller.

(I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo sell white gamecube controllers for use with the Wii)
