Companies interested with Tomb Raider surface - Image 1Here's the follow up to the surprise announcement by SCi Entertainment that will definitely affect the Tomb Raider franchise in more ways than one. If you don't know what is currently happening, the publisher recently said that it is open to being taken over by third parties.

SCi admitted today that French developer and publisher Ubisoft had approached its officials for a bid even before the announcement was made. To be accurate, it is believed that the first bid approach was done back in October 2005. Talks went on for months but no deal was reached until meetings ended in February 2006.

The second bid approach came just recently after the above mentioned announcement. According to industry spectators, this development should "arouse" the curiosity of other companies such as Time Warner which actually owns a 10% stake in SCi. Largest shareholder Thorson Investments (15.5% share) should also be largely involved.

Some also speculated that companies Electronic Arts and Sony will also be involved. It is needless to say that these bids involve a large amount of money with some estimating it to be around 300 million GBP (US$ 600 million).

So if it is down to EA or Sony I would hope it is Sony. EA makes crappy games and right now Sony needs any good news they can get. So buying a new company would bring in exclusive games and make sure that Sony can at least have a few good games on the PS3. Lair and Heavenly Sword were said to be big games that would make some one go out and buy a PS3 but after the reviews the PS3 game line up looks weak.

I myself lean more on the PS3 side over the 360. But if they both costed the same price I would go out and buy a 360 if I did not have one already. So for me at least my PS3 will not get being used but my 360 will.

It'd be nice if Epic got the rights to Tomb Raider since Epic is my favorite game developer. Imagine Tomb raide ala' Gears of waresque theme? Lara! Fight through the pain!

Hell, put the same damn developing team that worked on Splinter Cell 2 or G.R.A.W 2 and give it that extra realism with an even hotter looking Lara Croft character model and you've got one helluva game to pass the time with. I hope Ubisoft wins this one.

I guess this means there will be no true sequal to finish the story started in Legend then? O well, I won't complain, just please don't let EA buy it, they make good games into crap. Case in point, when they bought the James Bond franchise AFTER Goldeneye came out. I don't think there's been a descent Bond game since...

# Ubisoft or EA would be coolGuest 2007-09-06 07:39
First off I would like to say that Ubisoft makes some great games and I think that would be the better company for this but I wouldn't mind if EA made the plunge. Yeah I do have to agree with the people in the others posts that EA has made some crap games over the years but at the same time I have played some EA games that have been really good. I for one am already looking forward to the EA title Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 for the Wii.

EA is retarded. All their games are shovelware, and you know it...except for Battlefield 2. Everything they've made in the recent years have been rehashed garbage especially the MoH games. God, I hope EA doesn't get their hands on this. I hope Sony gets it because it's the only way they can end the dreadful franchise...back on Sony's playground where it met the most success.

epic would not be good, it has proved itself with one franchise UT since gears looks the same as the ut games and i dont think they would be good since they make ideas they dont elaborate upon existing ones
