CNN looks into the Wiimote strap dilemma

Ó

As you guys have probably noticed (and maybe even experienced for yourself), there have been some issues with the Wiimote: there's the broken TV caused by the flying Wiimote, which in turn was caused by the broken Wiimote straps, and so on and so forth.

And because this phenomenon is starting to seem like just a few swings away from becoming a national emergency (for some people at least), CNN decided to get in on the action by having one of their reporters take on the Wii - swings, strokes, straps and all. The CNN reporter consulted two "veteran gamers" from Joystiq (who walked the reporter through the proper use of the Wiimote and Nunchuk) AND get this, a chiropractor.

The general conclusion seems to be that while the Wii was extremely successful in getting our resident couch potatoes to get off their asses, it also tends to induce errr... "hyperactivity" (for lack of a better term). Here in the video, the reporter tries to play the Wii Sports games and analyzes the possible dangers of the Wii's motion-sensing innovation. Can't really promise you that they'll point out stuff that you guys don't know already, but hey, it's still a Wii TV stint right? And anything with the Wii on it is definitely worth watching. So with that, I'll leave you guys with the vid and let us know what you think.

# String is not the problemGuest 2006-12-09 11:09
The string is not the problem. The problem is the way you are holding the Wiimote. I have had my wii since launch and not once have i threw it out of my hand. All you have to do it take a firm grip on it. When your not swingin the bat in baseball or swinging ur arm in tennis or whatever take a loose grip on it and then regain your hard grip on it again. In real tennis if u dont firmly grip the racket it will fly away and the same for baseball. If you are worried that it will fly out of ur hand then buy a wii grip that covers the entire wiimote in a rubbery thing to keep it from flying out of your hand. It also comes with another wii strap so there. Stop blaming wii cuz u cant read the messages and dont know how to play the game.

The female newscaster said that she plays it too. I wonder if she had her own or just played it to get familiar with the article. Man, I really want a Wii.

But this is good news for Nintendo and videogames. Getting on CNN is a way to get a lot of non-gamers to see and hear about it. Many adults watch the news but never play games. I hope that a few of them saw how much fun their favorite host was having and decided to at least try it out at a local Target, Walmart, etc.

# Strap = Safety FeatureGuest 2006-12-09 14:08
Fact is, the strap is supposed to be a safety feature, *just incase* you let go of the wiimote. It's not working as well as it should. after only a few hours of some Wii Sports tennis at my buddy's house, the string started to fray, and by no means were we stressing the thing out. I still plan on getting wii, but for people saying youre supposed to hold onto the wiimote, yeah, most people understand th, but accidents happen, and the strap clearly isn't a good safety device. You shouldn't have to but another device to replace the faulty one that isn't doing it's job.

OK 1 yes the strap is a safty feature so you don drop your wiimote and break it and so if it SLIDES out of your hands not for idiots who feal like they wanna be the *****ing hulk hitting a baseball with a bat

The girl reporter in the video instead of saying You should be able to stand up and swing it around like your playing. what she should have said "you should be able to swing around the wiimote like your chucking a rock at a T-rex to save your life" BECAUSE THATS WHY ALL THESE *****ING WIIMOTE ACCIDENTS ARE HAPPENING AND AS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE JUMPING IN THE AIR AND PUTTING THEY'RE HANDS THROUGH LIGHTS AND FANS........THOSE FANS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THERE >>>>THE FANS AND LIGHTS AREN'T THERE BECAUSE YOU HAVE A WII NOW SO FIND ANOTHER THING BESIDES NINTENDO TOO BLAME YOUR BULL***** ACCIDENTS ON

Just stamp "retard" on all of our foreheads now so the rest of the nation can move on to more important ways to make us look stupid.

You say that's just another reason for America to be made fun of but then again the last time I checked America is the most thriving country today.

Being the most thriving country and being dumb are 2 completely different things so g1842 your comment gets booted off the island, theres plenty of things in the world that are dumb as hell and are still the most sought after...just look at the ps3(lol jk) but yes even though we are the most booming country in the world we also have allot of idiots because we so arrogant about being the best like we can say most of our country is well fed unlike 3rd world countrys but in the same sense we have people EXTREMELY over weight to the point where we could almost feed a whole country a years worth of food for what 1 fat person eats in a month(over exaggerated)and we STILL have people starveing

go on ahead and tell me thats not dumb!!!
