cIOS PatchMii Installer v2: custom firmware installer, doesn't need IOS WAD |
Ó
Although waninkoko's cIOS custom firmware installer is a popular program, some circles in the Wiibrew community prefer not to use it.As an alternative, Wiibrew dev tona has provided cIOS PatchMii Installer, an alternative to waninkoko's cIOS program. Unlike waninkoko's program, PatchMii doesn't require you to have the specific IOS WAD to install. Instead, it downloads the existing IOS37 from Nintendo's servers, patches it, and installs it as IOS249.
The program acts as both installer and uninstaller. If you run the program and it detects IOS249 already installed on your system, it will uninstall it for you. It's basically like an on and off switch.
Tona seems to be making a habit out of making clones of waninkoko's programs. He has also released an alternative to waninkoko's Wii Region Changer before (check out AnyRegion Changer in the related articles). Here's how tona describes the differences between PatchMii, and waninkoko's cIOS:
All of the patches are the same as in Waninkoko's cIOS.
Although I haven't checked, I'd be willing to bet that the patched IOS modules have the same produced sha-1 hash as Waninkoko's installer generates. Except for Content 0.

Does this work with 3.2E or is it just for 3.3? :S
n/t
I need it for DVDX since i have a modchip i need to install patchmii for it to work. Was just wondering if it works on all fws or is it just 3.3?
so, this is great and all.... But I can for see a problem. All ninty has to do to break this is change the link to their official IOS online. Maybe its not "that" easy, I cant be sure. Either way, if I decided I need cIOS on my system I would run with waninkoko's one. ALthough I understand the theory behind Tona's installer. All he is doing is making it accomplish the same thing another way. Which, makes him worse than what they accuse waninkoko of doing. Which is stealing other peoples code, changing a bit of it and passing it off as his own, and not releasing the source. I dont care if the source is released or not, I just need the software to work. One BIG problem this is going to create is that homebrew devs will not know which IOS to try to use. This is essentially a format war. Waninkoko is making cIOS come up as IOS36, and Tona is making virtually the same thing, only it comes up as IOS 249. Yes, both IOS can reside on the same system ast the same time. But its just retarded to do it that way. It will be interesting to see if wiibrew can convince the general homebrew public that waninkoko is as evil as they say. Once he puts out an ISO loader I think bushing will have his eyes opened to how many people REALLY DO want it, and how may people jump OFF his "morals ship"
Thank you for showing how very little knowledge you have on the Wii scene. Wanin's cIOS is mostly based on patchmii if that wasnt released then Waninkoko wouldnt have released a cIOS. Which is what most of Wanin's apps are based on other peoples code which he has finished off. Waninkoko isnt evil he just takes credit for other peoples work who have moral ground and dont want piracy to escalte like it did on the PSP now no one wants to make games on it. Sure an ISO loader would be good for people like you who dont want to support developers which apparently arnt real people who dont need pay. Youll never get an ISO loader from Waninkoko that was made fully by him.
I dont care who makes it in whole or in part. As long as its made. So, this Tona guy is ripping off 100% what waninkoko did and even admits that its 100% a carbon copy of it yet Wani is the bad guy here? If other guys start coding something and make it open source then whats the problem with someone else finishing it off for them and running with it? As far as I know the "credit" thing is the only real issue. So, the guy who did 80% of the easy coding but lacked the skill, knowledge, or time to finish it off should get all the credit?? And finally, who said anything about ripping off devs? I dont think I mentioned using an ISO loader to rip off games. Where I am from its perfectly legal to have backups of games, movies, music that you own. And there is nothing wrong with using the backups while your originals are stored away. The problem is people like you who think that "ISO equals Piracy". When it does not. And also that ISO loaders will be the death of the wii. Look at systems like PS3. They do NOT have any piracy and they STILL cant seem to make any 3rd party games worth buying let alone dream of stealing.
