Hobby Shop is an entry to Great Canada Video Game Competition - Image 1Here's the deal: There's this thing called the Great Canadian Video Game Competition hosted by the company Telefilm Canada. This needs no further explanation as the name of the contest says it all. Anyway, what's interesting about this is that the winner of the competition, which will be announced sometime in September, will be released as a full retail game.

From what we've heard, one of the strongest contestants is Big Blue Bubble Inc. with its pet project Hobby Shop. The title is for the Wii platform and is actually a carpentry simulation game. In Hobby Shop, players will use the Wiimote and Nunchuk to build bird houses, catapults, soap box racers, and a wide array of other things. According to Big Blue Bubble CEO Damir Slogar,

The video games have belonged to my life for more than 30 years. Whereas the other children wanted to become doctors or astronauts, I dreamed to create video games. Since this time, it is hardly if my goal changed. I want to now create GOOD video games - plays which will get to the players pleasure as much than me and my team had of it to develop them.

Hobby Shop has already passed the first two elimination rounds of the competition. As of now, Big Blue Bubble has already spent US$ 220,000 in the title development alone. Should this win, do you think a carpentry simulation game has what it takes to make it big?
