Capcom: No Lost Planet, Dead Rising for PS3 and Wii

A couple of hours ago, Christian Svensson (a.k.a. Sven) over at the Capcom official boards made a statement in light of Capcom's move to turn Devil May Cry 4 into a multi-platform game.

Sven said that the company felt that allowing DMC4 to be reached by more people outside the PlayStation 3 (PS3) "pleases far more people than it displeases," and that the decision was made in the best interest of Capcom and the players.

And while this statement is still drawing all sorts of reactions like the recent online petition, Capcom forum member Westell Westell quizzed Sven to help clarify matters regarding the company's plans:

What I am wondering, is since Capcom has claimed "Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible," does that mean Capcom will be making games that were exclusive to the Xbox 360 cross platform as they did with Devil May Cry or is that quote from Capcom more of just a PR man doing their job? Thanks.

Here was Sven's reply:

The answer is Dead Rising and Lost Planet are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3 as far as current plans go. The reasons for this are quite convoluted and I'm bound by NDAs on these matters so I can't divulge why this is the situation.

The quote delivered above references our strategy moving forward, not something that is necessarily retroactive. You can see evidence of this with our previously stated RE5 plans going to 360 and PS3 simultaneously.

While (PS3) and Wii owners may feel a sting in Sven's statement that there is no planned releases of Lost Planet or Dead Rising for their consoles, the "current plans" clause does open up speculation on what lies in the near future. For now, just await further details at the upcoming Capcom Day this April 12.

I am now just refusing along with another 3000 gamers to buy capcom games no matter how good they are. They have totally contrdicted themselfs, as they say the move to the 360 for DMC4 is for profit, and yet they refuse to port dead rising and lost planet in which they could gain more profit. Clearly they have no faith in the Sony brand even though it has had less than a year on the market. They cant just presume that the 360 is a winner becuase it has had a year on the market, you have to let a console develop.

Why would it be important not to say why a title isn't multi platform? It could be a simple issue of the developer not wanting to bash another console for not having the numbers or the power to make it worth while to develope for other consoles. Or, it is possible that there is a deal between the software and console companies in question that is not and has not been publicly announced. Draw your own conclusions here - I am not saying one way or another. However, my 360 seems to be getting more play time than my PS3 and Wii by far.

Even if you trace Resident Evil's history, you'd see how many different platforms that one game has been on. Anyone remember how RE was exclusive to the gamecube? Megaman anyone? Capcom always starts out with another company besides Sony and in the end return to Sony once they've figured out how they can turn the most profit. Surely, you guys aren't that naive to believe Capcom values any relationship more than a buck?

if ps3 had 11 million units and the 360 had 2 million. And the cost of developing for the 360 was considerbly more than that of developing for the ps3. Then they wouldnt bother porting 2 games over because the costs would outweight the profits. The reason why both dmc4 and re5 are multi platform is because they are being developed by two different teams and not just porting. The reason why dmc4 is now on both is because the 360 is a huge hit. Its like saying the best song ever is coming out but you can only get it on itunes. No other big mp3 sites can sell it, no cds and hey mtv cant even add a video. If you have a giant segment of the market to reach, reaching it is the only clever thing to do.

ps2 , gamecube , xbox , xbox 360, wii, psp and did own a nintendo ds but sold it after Id played all the rpgs. lol i agree 100% it isnt a fair representation saying gears is better than resistance. Of course it is, not only has it been in development longer but the development kits are more complete. Ps3 is capable of doing exactly what the 360 is. But I wouldnt say more. In a nutshell its feature set doesnt warrenty its price tag. The online which is essential in this round is rubbish. The new online may be good (home is it?) but as it stands its horrible. Ive played it online, ive played a mates ps3. The online was bad and the controller is so old and uncfortable it needs a redesign. And the tilt what a waste of time. Even though the dual-shock 2 is cool, I think I might like the Sixaxis a little more. It's definitely a lot lighter and I've grown to like the Playstation controller (didn't really look forward to the so-called boomerang PS3 controller). As of 3/26/07, I got a broken PS1 (don't know exactly why but it quit reading game discs), a gameboy color, used to have a GBA but I tragically lost it, a PSP (woohoo!!!), a Windows PC (obviously lol), an N64, a Sega gamegear, a PS2, and an Xbox. Also I bought a Sixaxis in order to play with my friend on his PS3 since he didn't get an extra controller and currently use it to play Halo (the PC version) which is sort of ironic since I'm using a product of Sony with a product of microsoft (don't forget I'm also playing a Microsoft game) in harmony lol. I think I've named all of my consoles lol.

I definitely agree with Jack N Los post. Capcom's statement is clearly artfully masking the truth, which is "we've received money from Microsoft to keep these only on the 360 for a while. When that time or money runs out, we'll waste no time in porting Dead Rising and Lost Planet, etc. to PS3. Besides, there'll be more buyers then, and it's win-win for us." Alternatively, he may be indicating that Microsoft went so far as to supply them with inside information on the 360 architecture (maybe even MS developers?) to code these games to look better than other 360 games, and that they won't be able to ever release them elsewhere for this reason.

I think I have a right to preemptively say that PS3 will have an online service as enjoyable as XBL if you have the right to say that blu-ray is the next beta-max (btw blu-ray discs are outselling HD-DVD 2:1) and that service is home. The PS3's been out for four months I can remember playing Call of Duty 2 as of January 06 for six months before anything I wanted came out for 360. The exact same thing is happening with the PS3. Believe me I think the PS3 was way over hyped and is currently inferior to the 360, but of course it is! There are good things coming out for the PS3 (DMC4, Home, Little Big Planet, Heavenly Sword) just as I saw good things coming out for 360 at the end of 06 (F.E.A.R., Gears of War, Dead Rising). If Sony hadn't over hyped their console I believe that people would look at its development as similar to the 360s, but because of that I think that many gamers instantly expect the greatness that Sony promised from their console. My advice: never believe anything Sony tells you and look at the raw facts.

I guess Im the kid on this blog, oh well, ok old heads, shouldnt you be at work or with your wife, oh yeah your on this sit posting to kids !!! even if capcom and every third-party developer went multi platform, sony still has a stronger first-party then MS. in the future sony will have more games. dont get me wrong, Ms does have a first party, but while they make 1 or 2 games for the 360, sonys getting about 4 or 5. nintendo on the other hand has a very strong first-party but almost no third-party. sony has a great balence of both. but going back to what yall said about development cost, its true that development cost is high, so why not put all games on every system instead of making them exclusive to the xbox like camcom is doing now.

Your really mad aren't you....The reason why I think Lost planet and dead rising are staying with M$ is becuase Microsoft has Money. Sony has alittle bit of money but not as much as Microsoft. For god sakes, Bill Gates make 4 mill a night Lol!

Ps3 doesn't even have over 700,000 yet let alone 4 million.... 10 million people has xbox live (imagine the xbox's sold that does not have live?) Yeah....huge profit. It will take ALOT for the ps3 to recuperate it MASSIVE lost. Those games were PUBLISHED by Microsoft studios. There not coming unless Capcom buy's out of the contract. No game company cares about Gamers. They put all that bull crap slogan but at the end of the day, the money is what counts. Microsoft has that, ALOT of that.

Fanboy alert, Lack Luster? The only good game for the ps2 is god of war and kingdom Hearts. (being that thier exclusives....not so sure about kingdom hearts) Gay animated men with Imo attitude's get old. 360 is original and new. I can understand a sequal but damn...... Sony thought they can boast about thier consoles with CGI movies but in the end, no they couldn't. All of the ps3 games are spin offs to ps2. Name 5 games that is NEw and original on the ps3 hmmmm? White Night Story, Littlebigworld, Lair, uhhhh.......hmmm....now let's go to 360. BioShock, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Crackdown, Gears of War, Lost Odessy, Cry on,.....I could go on forever...please, the ps has lost it's touch. The only GOOD game coming out for it is MGS4...that's about it. FFXIII is SUPER huge fan base. Real men don't like playing with gay spikied hair fool's with huge swords
