Monster Hunter 3 - Image 1More light has been shed on Capcom's recent decision to bring Monster Hunter 3 to the Nintendo Wii home video game console. Apparently, development costs for the Sony PlayStation 3 played a part in the company's decision.

This was revealed by Katsuhiro Ichii, Capcom's managing corporate officer. Ichii is quoted in a Thompson Financial news report on Hemscott as saying, "Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title."

Although Monster Hunter 3's multiplatform status is unclear, Sony still has at least one title in the series - Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G - heading for its PlayStation portable handheld gaming system.

The same reports also quotes Enterbrain president Hirokazu Hamamura as saying that Monster Hunter 3 could bring more teenage players to the Wii fold as the series has a strong fan base in that particular demographic.

Hamamura also noted that the move by Capcom, who has a reputation for creating graphics-intensive titles, could lead to more developers working on Wii titles. The Wii has generally been thought of as unable to handle graphics such as those required by Monster Hunter titles.

» lol i mean...

isnt that Obvious that the Wii is cheaper to develop for?

just look at the resolution both console can output and it should be clear. I mean, they can prolly take all the PSP models and port it to the Wii...

Wii will destroy the video game market...one day.

You flying retard. Have you really got that shiet a life where you have to dedicate your loyalty to a freaken game console? Your pathetic and your little rant there proves it. Your exactly why the PS3 is loosing its appeal. They don't need people like you preaching loyality and disloyality.. they're not in it for the greater good they're in it for the dollar amount like everyone else.

You my retarded half-being are a fundamentalist gamer (i think i might have just coined that).

» meh

Read this from gameinformer a few hours back, wasn't very happy. Was looking forward to it as well. -.-

» it's not like I wanted the game anyway

And also, on the wii it's gonna be way cooler since you'll make the moves to capture or kill the ennemies.

Still, big dragons and stuff in HD would have been cool...

But anyway, I never played any of those games, it's not my style...

by theTick197 - 2007-10-10 06:42
» Yah!

Big dragons i HD Cool! Like LAIR! Oh, wait.....

by hush404 - 2007-10-10 07:34
» OH WTF!

I was looking forward to seeing what a powerful system cold do for MH, now we've got the craptastic wii taking the game? ***** that piece of fn minigame sh__T.

» WTF?

http://ps3.qj.net/Capcom-to-focus-on-PS3-but-still-plans-to-go-multiplatform/pg/49/aid/104027

Capcom just announced that they were going to step up development for PS3, but it seems like they're being just as lazy regardless of what their fans want. This was going to be MH's big chance to push forward with its unique online play, too... I guess we can forget about that.

» They just lost my respect...

I would have rather MH3 went to the 360 than the frickin Wii... I like the Wii and I'm curious about its games but when it stands in the way of progress just because its the cheapest and therefore fastest selling system this generation it really pisses me off.

We could have had a true next gen MH with HD graphics, even BIGGER environments, smarter AI, larger mobs... the list goes on... What we get is probably going to end up as a slightly upgraded version of MH2 from the PS2 with a gimmicky "ooo you actually have to slash w the wiimote to fight" control system. See Dragon Quest Swords for such system in action... ARGH.

And why cancel the PS3 version completely? If you want $, you can just have it multiplatform across all 3. Looks like I'll have to become a WiiTard to get my next MH fix... Sigh

» Stupid Capcom

I think Capcom turned to a whore. They will suck any body's ***** for some quick cash,

So yeah they have lost all my respect.

» yeah well you know what god

I hope you die of Aids you goddamn piece of S.H.I.T. So it's ok for Wii fanboys to come in here and brag about how the Wii is beating everything in else in sales. It's also ok for Xbots to come in here and talk about how great Xbox Live and Halo is but a guy can't curse a company that has for two times now let the PS3 down. I wasn't really suprised to hear this Capcom has been doing this exact same thing since the Dreamcast days. Resident Evil Code Veronica was supposed to be exclusive to the Dreamcast then it later got ported to the PS2. Resident Evil 4 was supposed to be exclusive to the Gamecube then it later got ported to the PS2 and then after that the Wii. And you get the point Capcom in my opinion is a piece of S.H.I.T company that should have gone bankrupt a long time ago. If they don't have the money to make next gen games then they should just stick to PS2 and Wii games instead of doing what they did with Monster Hunter 3 or Devil May Cry 4. Oh but sure they don't have money to keep DMC4 exclusive to the PS3 but they sure as hell have money to keep Dead Rising and Lost Planet exclusive to the 360. So I agree with Aragami ***** *****com and ***** piece of ***** xbots like you.

» The upside I guess

Well with the lack of REAL innovation, perhaps there will be Monster Hunter Portable 3 for the PSP (so long as Capcom hasn't sold their souls do the devil in white) If thats the case I wouldn't mind nearly as much. Here's to hoping.

I'm all for attracting new people to gaming (which is what the Wii does) but how are the elderly, preteens and other "casual gamers" going to cope with the hardcore devotion that goes into MH. Damage formula's, stagger limits, endless farming. Sorry,it just doesn't look like a casual gamer thing to do...

Nintendo has crossed the line. Attract all the people you want and make all the money you can BUT leave the hardcore gamers alone. This is ridiculous...

by the by - 2007-10-10 20:33
» well...

if you want to do real damage then just boycot all of their games!!!!

then you guys will get your wish!!!

they ll go bankrupt!!! lol!!

im not bothered about that game anyway but, it still annoyed me that they have gone and screwed the ps3 owners!!!

by xche78x - 2007-10-10 22:42
» lolz capcom

that isnt the real reason.

the real reason is the wii has a large user base here in japan, and most psp monster hunter players bought a wii. my japanese cousin and all his classmates did. from psp to wii.

by ssj3fox - 2007-10-11 00:49
» What if the game is good?

What if...

just maybe...

the game...

IS FUN

Prejudge all you want. The game i not even out yet. I'm glade to see Capcom trying to make a hardcore Wii game. That is what people want. Looks like Wii gamers will get the best of both worlds. Why can't Wii have hardcore games? I hope they do a good job. What good comes from hoping a game will suck?

by Soily - 2007-10-11 02:27
» Capcom + Sony...

For your information, Aragami, Capcom doesn't have "a big Name" thanks to Sony.

Capcom was a major actor in the video game business long before Sony really gets involved into it...

Now they switch to the Wii because it has a very large user base, which means they can hope to sell more games for that system than for the PS3 (and as the news says, it's cheaper to develop for the Wii as well). I just hope that by moving to the Wii, Capcom won't start making *****ty games (like most "games" for the Wii) and will continue doing real, good games like they always did. If that's the case, then I'll be a happy Wii owner. :)

Your right Soily, but Capcom made Millions thanks to the Playstation & 2 you sure know what i mean?
