Bungie: can learn a thing or two from Call of Duty 4's single-player experience |
Ó
After packing up from the Microsoft offices, Bungie may have a thing or two to learn from Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3). Bungie Lead AI Programmer Damian Isla mentioned he admires CoD4's performance against their own Halo 3 as the most played game on Xbox Live.He mentions that he has always been a fan of the series and believes Bungie can take a page off CoD's scripted single player campaign mode. He was quoted having said this regarding the matter:
I think it's a great game and single player obviously is fantastic... they did a hell of a job with their set pieces, of scripting certain moments that they were really sure the player was going to actually see and experience first hand. The way that they use those moments to craft the player experience...Halo has a lot to learn from.
The main difference with Halo and Call of Duty's single player mode is that the "simulation" approach of the former makes it more difficult to create scripted instances for the developers. He admits that while the simulation feel of Halo makes it more realistic, it does give the designers a bigger headache when trying to script in stuff for the game.

oh yea take THE most amazing multiplayer game ........ and study the single player campaign thats a joke right there. + i beat COD4 in like 5 hours (not even prolli less but it was fun)
w/e halo went downhill after #1 (epic game)
Just because the single-player was short doesn't mean it had no value. It was probably the most thrilling/action-packed fps i've ever played, ever.
And I'd have to disagree about the multiplayer. I agree the CoD4 multiplayer is fantastic (better than Halo3), but they could definitely take a few tips from Bungie in the features department.
CoD4 is just a better game at its core. I don't know how to explain it, but IW just nailed exactly what a shooter should feel like.
...that Call of Duty 4 is one of the best FPSs ever. The multiplayer is awesome on and offline, the story is great, which lends to the overall class of the single player experience.
Halo 3, for me, is boring. Not because it's a bad game; it's not. It's just too similar to the first two. I didn't like Halo 1 after about 3/4 of the way through the story, because it was repetitive. Halo 2 was a decent step forward in graphics, gameplay mechanics etc, but still not quite far enough. Halo 3 just improved graphics. I was, to say the least, disappointed with it.
Timesplitters 4, where are you?
The single player was very good but the multiplayer is quite boring and the game has no recoil (weird for a realistic fps).
Personally I prefer the multiplayers of UT2004, UT3 and CS:S. Loads of different game types and thousands of maps.
because i played on hardened and it took me around 10
i don't really care for halo's online multiplayer. I don't find myself playing it as much as COD4. it really isn't fun as COD4.
Was no joke either... still haven't gotten Mile High Club. I loved the CoD4 single player campaign... there were some BIG-TIME wow moments that IW orchestrated in a way that made me just go WHOA... like the part (? spoilers) when you emerge from the helicopter to see the blast. Really pretty amazing and compelling storytelling. I wish we woulda had the in game movie maker for CoD4. I hope each developer takes the good points from the other and incorporates them.
Cuz it didn't reward me like CoD4 did. I mean don't get me wrong, the gameplay in CoD4 is slick and addictive enough... but the RPG'ish way of getting your avatar better and better with more and more play was the main reason it grabbed me like it did.
Bungie can learn a lot from that rewarding gameplay ... 1 point rewarded based on if you had a skilled team or no-lag didn't make me feel like continually playing Halo 3 MP.
... and don't even get me started on that crazy ass "True Skill" system...
Wouldn't it be sweet to see a Counter Strike game for the home consoles? Or an Unreal Tournament on Wii ('cause there's one already on 360... isn't there?)?
Wow, why is their always conflict? I know that conflict will arise wherever, but out of all the console wars which have passed, this generation seems to have more unneccessary *****ing, mostly stemming from console fans wanting to do whatever they can to anger the opposing console fan.
Seriously, who gives a *****. And NO, he didn't say that they were copying from CoD. He said they could learn something from them.
Why is it that anti-Halo fans and/or anti-360 fans always try to turn things out of there context? I'm not saying those of you who hate Halo and the 360 are bad! You have your opinion. I respect you. But a good amount of you are all about hating, all day long, as much as you can.
This goes for 360 fans too. Everyone does it but I've never seen information so twisted during any other generation.
Hate the console, not the fans. It's not that emotional for some of you?
** Is it really that emotional for some of you?
i never managed to beat vet, but played through my first time on easy (about 4 months after i bought the game lol muliplay was 2 good ) and i beat it in under 5 hours .
my point was halo should learn a thing or two about mutiplayer (and CONTROLS....... they were perfect) from cod4
Someone forgot to take their Prozac
I can Imagine why people would get board of console games. In COD4 on pc you have what's called modmaps. People make maps at home. They are the best. My opinion on halo it sucks and is repetitive.
there WAS a counter strike game for the first gen xbox, I think its even backwards compatible.
