Blizzard exec teases Burning Crusade launch with... StarCraft-Next?

Ó

Stop teasing us, Blizzard!!!

Pro-G was at the HMV Oxford Burning Crusade launch party, and they heard Blizzard VP Business Development and International Itzik Ben Bassat say the following. You know what? Let's make that "Pro-G swears by all that is holy they heard Blizzard VP Bassat say the following":

I'm a StarCraft player myself and I hope it's not a decade, and we launched StarCraft in 1998, before I'm standing here again, celebrating the next game in the series.

Kerrigan's ghost, Bassat! (Whoa, a pun. Kerrigan's ghost... Kerrigan WAS a Ghost... hehe) If there's a way to start a riot among the gamers of the late 90's, that's one way. Kaplan and LeCraft both have been dropping hints about an under-wraps Blizzard project, and historically speaking, a sequel, spin-off, or continuation of the seminal RTS game of the late '90s was more under-wraps than most. And if you think the heat for a StarCraft-Next has died down, remember that 3D vid you saw before? That's from Snowflake Entertainment, buncha fans working on remaking StarCraft using the Warcraft III engine.

You know how it is with the tease, right? They show you a little, just enough to get you interested, then pull the covers back on, leaving you wanting more, begging for more (anyone who's dated before will know what this writer's talking about). Because that's all Bassat said, no one on Earth, except probably for Blizzard, knows whether he meant the still-vapor StarCraft Ghost (potential next-gen console title?), or a future 3D RTS sequel to StarCraft (which would definitely be, or at least begin, on the PC). Or even a StarCraft MMO?

We can make a very accurate prediction, though. Have you ever seen a Zergling rush tear an entire base apart like rabid termites? That's what StarCraft fans will do to game stores everywhere when a StarCraft-Next is launched. You can bet I'll be one of them.

Remaking Starcraft for the PC is like SquareEnix remaking FFVII for the PS3.

Every fan of both games really wants it, but the devs don't wanna make it.

I remember when Warcraft III was released and for beating the game you get a little scene at the end with marines and hydralisks killing each other.

Everyone went into a huge riot with rumors spreading around like crazy that they are remaking Starcraft with the warcraft 3 engine the same way people went crazy when the FFVII Tech Demo was shown at e3 2005.

Blizzard would be making millions of gamers happy if they remade Starcraft, its a shame they wont, because starcraft is still a widely played RTS game.

Both of these remakes are trump cards, if either company, "or their partners" are ever in a tight spot, these games will come out, and not one second sooner.

You don't remake the most popular and most asked about remake in your arsenal when you are ahead.

It's so annoying that Starcraft:Ghost hasn't been released. For God's sake, I played the demo in July at the San Diego Comic-Con. IMHO, it wasn't that good, but I don't like shooters so....whatever.

I still play Starcraft at least 3 times a week. Its awesome.

Agreed, SC MMO would be AMAZING. Does anyone remember that hybrid species of Protoss/Zerg in the hidden level in Brood War? I'd like to see that :)

DG's gotta be right. I'd love to see a new sequel of some sort to Chrono Trigger, but certainly not StarCraft as a first person shooter..

Next we'll hear about Age of Empires 4, an epic quest for a Cherokee rifleman to find his meaning in life.

I know another Starcraft RTS would kick major ass...but i'm also bafled as to why no news on SC:Ghost....I know the game was quite aways along and it's strange for them to just can it and not bring it back at some point.....

I would rather it be a new RTS game though, but i'd settle for Ghost as well....

When a new SC is released, WoW will be known as the quickest cancelled account having game ever.

Starcraft will always be better.
