Blizzard confirms: Starcraft Ghost never 'technically canceled' - Image 1

Blizzard's Frank Pearce, Executive VP of Product Development, recently spilled the main reason why StarCraft: Ghost, a game once queued for the Xbox, Gamecube, and PlayStation 2, didn't make it to the company's list of canceled games during a session at the recent DICE 08. And while many fans interpreted it from all angles of thought, Pearce reassured that Nova's debuting title didn't belong to the canceled category:

It never was technically canceled. ItÂ’s just a focus thing for us right now. WeÂ’ve got a finite amount of development resources and a lot of different things that we want to focus on so thereÂ’s always the possibility, but right now weÂ’re spending our time on World of Warcraft and our expansion Wrath of the Lich King and StarCraft II.

Pearce also revealed that Swingin' Ape, the studio that Blizzard bought to deliver the game to consoles, were no longer a separate developing entity under the publisher. In fact, Pearce said that now all their development workforce is situated in a single compound in Irvine, and Blizzard has no other development personnel other than those found there.

While it doesn't clear up whether Swingin' Ape developers are still with Blizzard, it confirms the publisher's stand on focus. With that out of the way, let's just hope that Blizzard can finally render StarCraft 2 soon and perhaps shed some light on Team 3 - a mysterious developer segment of Blizzard working on a confidential, "really awesome" game.

hahaha

"We’ve got a finite amount of development resources" HAHAHA RIGHT. why don't you take one month's worth of WoW subscription fees and pay for the entire development process.

I'm glad

I actually played a demo of this game at Comic-Con 2007 and it was horrible! I'm glad they canceled this. Well, not technically.....

cha

It's old news and they were never developing it anyways. Blizzard handed the project off to a third party dev who did a miserable job with it so they took it back and handed it off to another 3rd party dev some time later who did the exact same thing, so again they took it back and put the idea on teh shelf.

Dirge of Cerberus

Just to add to my comment. Remember Dirge of Cerberus? Starcraft: Ghost played exactly like Final Fantasy- Dirge of Cerberus. If you are into torture, then go ahead.

Yup...

Blizzard must have a ridiculous amount of money from WoW that any lack or resources just sounds ridiculous.... Unless for some crazy reason it takes them 10000 people working around the clock to develop an expansion for an already very well established game engine/world.....
