Give me your soul!!! - Image 1Cliff Bleszinski waxes sentimental and talks soul. In an interview with Develop Mag, the Gears of Wars design director gives his view on having original IPs developed by other studios.

According to him, the Call of Duty-style approach to games results to the game losing its soul. How so? Well in delegating the development of the IP to an outsider, there is something in the quality that is "lost in translation."

We've got a lot of ideas about where the franchise will go. But sometimes I feel a franchise loses something when it's shifted off to another shop. You get the primary studio that really understands about the franchise, and sometimes the other studio that takes it over can do well, but there's something lost in translation, like the game's soul has gone.

I guess the lesson to be had here is that if you have an idea and you are capable to see it to fruition, then do it yourself. There's nothing like seeing your own baby come to life in your own hands.

I dunno....

That is the nature of games development.....no matter what, it's usually 1-5 guys that come up with the idea for a game, but it has to be passed down and filtered through 50-150 people before the game is completed....and i'm sure alot get's lost in translation... I can see what he means though, if you have the exact group of people working on GameX sequel, that worked on GameX original, then they may know the feel better....but there will always be things lost in translation.....

So basically what he is saying is...

Infinity Ward ftw. Treyarch can suck it.
