Beautiful Katamari to skip PS3, end up on Wii instead? |

Most people are now content with the knowledge that Beautiful Katamari is now being developed for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 consoles, but IGN reported a rumor that may turn some PS3 owners' worlds upside down: Beautiful Katamari for the PS3 is now getting axed in favor of a Wii version. The reason, IGN's sources said, was that the developers encountered a crippling trouble in the making of the PS3 port of Beautiful Katamari, forcing them to halt the project. The PS3's currently sub-par sales was also rumored as a reason for cancelling the PS3 version.
This adds another Beautiful Katamari Wii rumor to the list, with the first BK Wii rumor getting debunked due to Namco Bandai's apparent disinterest in making a Katamari title for the Wii, whose success was still not proven then.
Namco Bandai has yet to answer IGN's queries about the issue, and until they have released an official statement its best to treat this bit of rumor with a grain of salt, despite IGN's sources' claim that the news is "100 percent reliable". Stay tuned as we roll around for more information!

Why! Why! Why!!? Pfff sub-par sales....
well still chalking this up as a rumor, but not a big Katamari fan so not a big deal. The problem they're having is all their programmers are sub-par and dont know how to learn new programming.
Smart move, no reason to waste time and money on a flopped console.
its nothing to do with the quality of the programmers. the ps3 is just an awful machine to program on because of its cell structure being asymetrical. hence i expect to see more and more devs steering away from ps3. i dont say this as a microsoft fan boy, infact my 360 broke so im not keen on 360 either. i wouldnt by a 360, ps3 or a wii in the consoles current states. the wii is probably the best with fun games and reliable console. but i dnt class that as next gen. sony and microsoft need to sort out these shoddy consoles if they wanna come close to the success of the ps2 and wii.
If they could do a descent and customisable multiplayer mode, that would be great.
Anyway, regarding the news, it sucks for PS3 owners, but on the other hand, this is not a next gen game anyway. You could pickup a copy of the previous games on PS2 or in fact, they might even port it to PS2 instead.
I don't think devs will quit the ps3 scene, it offers a new challenge. They might take more time on other projects to learn how to fully develop for a cell processor.
well... i got a 360 just cause i like the games... but poor ps3 owners, all that promised power and they dont get any good games, best game should be oblivion or rainbow six, and they are on 360 too
The whole point of the ps2 and ps3 was/is to offer challanges to devs. Sony had a hard time with devs on the ps2 because of the hardships it took to make games on it, they're doing the same with the ps3. Sony uses technology before its very well used so that when devs master the technologies they can produce great things. Compare launch ps2 games to now. The launch ps2 looked more like PS1 games but now they're beautiful.

Mohaas, he's not saying that the system is unreliable because it breaks, he's saying that programmers find it hard to work with, which is absolutely, 100% true. It appears you didn't even comprehend what he wrote, can you read? Maybe you don't know what programming is?
This isn't the first case of people complaining about working of the Ps3. There have been MANY articles similar to this from MANY developers. Don't say it's because they have bad programmers because this has been a common issue across the board. I can link to articles about other devs saying the same thing if you all want..
You can't say things like that MechApathy until you yourself are programming in the gaming industry. Sure if developers had infinite time and money they would fix the games for all platforms because it means they'll have more sales. But devs have deadlines to meet (not just ship date, but many deadlines throughout the project called milestones). In many cases (like this one) adding full Ps3 support would just take too long, even if they really wanted to do it. It's not their choice, they have a limited budget and limited man hours. Don't talk like you know how to fix the problem until you know how the industry works.

Pay attention get real, they are just citing IGN. IGN is the source of this "rumor" and they are pretty credible. Ign said this at the end: "As always, until we get an official confirmation from the company, this story should be considered rumor. However, when asked, our well-placed sources said the information was "100 percent reliable.""
IGN wouldn't post something like that lightly, because they have a reputation to keep. There might be truth to it, who is to say that the 360 exclusive rumor was more right than this one? Just wait and see. Don't blame QJ for a stupid rumor when it wasn't even them that came up with it.

it could mean that all of those developers have crappy programmers. Basically they dont want to spend the time or money to be able to program on the PS3. As they probably shouldn't, most PS3 owners will probably not buy this game, i know i wouldn't spend $60 on this.
While I am no developer, the PS3 is a hard platform to develop for, not an awful, it is just completely different then what programmers are used to. However, if developers actually spend time and actually do some effort on the PS3 they can in fact create good games that run well on the system. Look at Resistance and Motorstorm and for multiplatform look at The Darkness and Rainbow Six: Vegas.
So basically, the question is, do the developers want to be a bunch of *****es and give up saying "its too hard", or do they want to make the best game on as many systems as they can?

And the wii is a joke. It's inaccurate, the motion sensing and the picture is just crap (beware if you have a real HDTV, the picture will make you puke). I started laughing at "the wii is probably the best". Hardly. It has some fun games, namely Zelda and now Resident Evil 4, I don't use it as a party system so I'm not counting a lot of games that some people may find "fun", but I don't see how since party games are always pieces of sh*t that you play once for an hour and then they collect dust. Wasting $50 is not fun, but whatever
ATM the 360 is easily the best, with a lot of fun, amazing titles. I can't guess how many hours I've played that system. It must be many hundreds, and no, it has not broken. The PS3 seems like a very well-built system, but right now it's not good for people who actually want to play games. Good for entertainment nuts who go as far as looking at god-damned photos on their console (who does that??) and love watching movies all day, but not for gamers. Hopefully that will change soon

Sony has lied about sales for the ps3 and were caught doing so about a month or two ago when sales figures from the companies were half or less then the sales sony released to the press. Also if u look at the stats of a ps3 and a 360 there is very little difference in power, and the only main difference that gives the ps3 a advantage is the larger compacity blue ray discs. And also the 360 very well could have games as good as ps3 games graphically. Even Hideo admitted MGS4 could run on the 360, but he likes to kiss sonys ass to much to do so. But they would have to make them download able onto the 120 Gig hard disc drive or make layered discs, or just make the games on 2 or more discs which would probably be around the same price as 1 blue ray disc.
And besides all this evidence Sony fanboys continue to deny that the 360 is selling better and is equal to the ps3 almost entirely. Heck i went into town yesterday and they were out of the 360 consoles when a guy wanted to buy one, and the clerk mentioned they had plenty of ps3 consoles. The only way i will buy a ps3 is if they drop the price to 400 or less and make more games......

Sony needs to provide idiot proof programming support for the PS3. Seems that programmers are getting lazier and lazier these days. They just want to program in C and have the compilers do the porting for them instead of writing specifically for one console so it will take avantage of its speed due to native programming.
I'm sure many "programmers" don't even know what assembly language is.

Think about this -- a game company does not spend a crapton of money porting a game (or developing it) for a console and then hit a stumbling block or a brick wall and then decide to scrap the money they've spent on it. It doesn't happen. They have the SDK, they have the specs, they've got all the info they need. No reputable company with any sort of idea what they were doing (read: not NAMCO) would never get involved with a project that had any likelyhood of them ending it in a situation where they had to lose their work.
This sounds like stupid reverse-fanboy nonsense. I'll believe this when I see it. Considering that up until now, Katamari games have been Playstation exclusives, I don't believe that NAMCO would let anything get in the way of the sequel being released on the successor console.......

Only a handful of those look amazing, the rest will no doubt be broken promises (ie Killzone 2, Haze (which is rumored to be coming to the 360, as is Tekken 6)) and unfulfilled dreams (Drake's Fortune). Or will just flat out suck.
