I'm sure more than a handful of you remember Balloon Fight back in the NES era. Here's something that took inspiration from the classic Nintendo game and brought it to the 3D platforming arena.

Bertil Horberg's Helium Boy is actually a Wii port of a PC game he made for a final project in school. It was done in just 11 weeks, using the Ogre3D engine. Eventually, it landed as a nominee in the 2006 Swedish Game Awards under the Best PC game category - wow!

So here's the Wii port. You guide Helium boy over there with his balloons using the Wiimote + nunchuk combo. All you have to do is take him to the finish line, all the while avoiding obstacles and threats like birds and... uh... flying ninjas. BANAZAIII!!

Already, Bertil Horberg says he plans another update for the Wii port with the following list of things to do:
  • Add music playback.
  • Fix weird instant death bug.
  • Fix culling bug.
This brew works on the front SD slot only. You just have to take the files in the archive into your app folder and launch it from the homebrew channel. Simple, yes? The screens above are taken from the PC version, so there may be differences when it's running on the Wii.
