BAFTA Awards 2007: Wii Sports bowls over 6 awards, Crackdown bags 3 |

With the London Games Festival well underway, The British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) concluded its British Academy Video Game Awards night leaving Nintendo with complete bragging rights for one full year. Nintendo's Wii Sports held up against all competition in six categories and was crowned king in Casual, Gameplay, Innovation, Multiplayer, Sports, and Strategy and Simulation.
Microsoft's Crackdown took three titles home, while SCEE's God of War 2 and Capcom's Okami snagged two apiece. The Best Game Award went to 2K Games' BioShock, while on user-voted front, the PC World Gamers Award went to SEGA's Football Manager 2007. Sims creator Will Wright was inducted to the Academy Fellowship, where he joins the likes of Steven Spielberg and Charlie Chaplin.

Wii sports is complete crap, I've played it. More like minigames than real sports, the N64 stick figure graphics and the fact you can't really control much is pretty pathetic.

casual - maybe the only award that even applies to this crappy game
gameplay - is pitching, but not fielding a ball fun? How about swinging a tennis racket, but not moving the player? Stupid gameplay!
innovation - you always hear this with the Wii and it's games, but there's nothing special about a game that took two weeks and cost $5,000 to develop from the N64 era with half assed motion sensing controls thrown in.
multiplayer - this is not online, and gets boring after 20 minutes. Again this award is a joke. Family fun? What kind of family are you from?
sports - Wii sports really has nothing to do with real sports, just sports minigames with stick figures that are painful to look at. Another joke award.
strategy and simulation - This doesn't apply in any way. Wii sports has no strategy and has nothing to do with simulating anything. Maybe they could simulate going to the store and wasting $250 on this crap system and game.
Nintendo obviously paid off the judges to give awards one of the worst games released in the last year. Nearly all the Wii games suck, but there's better ones than Wii sports for chrissake! I guess when Nintendo did it's bribing, they choose to have Wii sports win because Nintendo just wants to sell sytems (that come with Wii sports) and they don't care about selling games right now.
