Bad Wii graphics? Clamor for your rights.

The movie was nice, the game seems to be okay, but the graphics for the Wii version of the game are uncomfortably absent. IGN's review of Vicarious Vision's Spider-Man 3 video game for the Wii has spawned quite a big fiasco over on Digg, as the Game Nation blog's AhrenBa lauded the sad state of Spidey for the Wii.

As IGN's review mentions, there are definitely some things lacking in the graphics department for the game:

While its sheer size is ambitious, the presentation and make-up of the environments are definitely not. The webslinger zips through blurry, unrefined city blocks that pop in and out of existence and are almost entirely void of pedestrian life below... no matter where you go, the area looks pretty much the same as the place you came from.

AhrenBa's entry probably echoes many sentiments gamers and reviewers had when they noticed these sorts of problems for their game: "I am sorry but, as a Wii owner, I am highly dissatisfied with the way developers are handling the graphics for Wii games. The PS2 version looks better than this, and we know for a fact that the Wii has more powerful hardware than the PS2."

I think the fault lies with the company that made this game. This game was so hyped up and it ended up being utter crap. I rented the PS3 version which was suppose to be the best out of the 3 and BOY DOES IT SUCK! The fight system is a mix between god of war and streets of rage. The voice acting kills this game.. and to top it off... LAG. Freaken lag! on a ps3!!!! Thats unacceptable... this game lags when your fighting villians by an open flame or swinging through 42nd street... I havent played the wii version but I wouldnt after playing the ps3 version. Dont blame the wii's graphical power blame the developer. Just remember how the godfather and Twilight princess looked then tell me spiderman 3 is anywhere near polished to the fullest for wii... horrible game, medicore movie.

Yes, this game has terrible graphics. But will the target audience of most movie tie-in games really care? Kids will see the 'Spiderman' logo on the box and buy it straight away. It's the same with all movie tie-ins; they get bad reviews, yet come up in the charts.

what's worse is that spiderman 3 isn't the only wii title with positively miserable graphics.. heatseeker, cooking mama, etc... the list goes on and on. I realize that game developers are 'porting' PS2 games to the Wii to maximize profits but c'mon guys - without any graphical enhancements, these titles just don't cut it.

Although the Wii is known for its innovative control scheme, the gaming system is still very much capable in the graphics department... stop coding for the lowest common denominator (PS2) and provide us gamers with software packages worthy of being played on a next-generation system! Heck, if developers consider the Wiimote to be the Wii's only redeeming feature, they are totally and entirely missing the mark. Upgrade or else!~

I agree with most of yall, and movie devs are lazy b*stards, but in general I think the Wii is getting shafted. It IS a gamecube, it's not like they have to get used to new hardward, like the PS3. It is indeed more powerful than the PS2, and faster than the gamecube... That should be shown. Just freaking ridiculous how they try to squeeze motion sensing into every game that doesn't need it...

this game looks like a tech demo. the fault definitely lies with the laziness of the game developers, this crappy product looks like it got rushed to store shelves halfway through production.

I knew the game makers were porting Playstation 2 games to the Wii. And not improving the graphics like they should. Now, to hear that the Spiderman graphics for the Wii are even worse than the Playstation 2 is outrageous. Developers need to redo their graphical engines and take advantage of the hardware on the Wii. I will not buy Spiderman or Heatseaker for the Wii. I really was looking forward to Heatseaker and was going to buy it. (Some of the graphics for Heatseaker have been compared to N64 titles.) That will never happen. The only way the game makers will change their ways is if we refuse to buy the cr.. they put out. I do not expect the graphics to be as good as Xbox 360 or PS3. But I do expect the best graphics the system is capable of. The Biggs is just aroud the corner. It has been in development for 2 years. The Wii version better have updated graphics for the Wii. If not, we should not buy it.

While I love the Wii's controller, I HAVE seen it used wrong, and I'm not going to buy a game just because of it. And for the crowd that says graphics don't matter, seriously, when a game for the Wii looks worse than a GC game....I'm not buying it. I may still be fun, but it's just a blatant show of how little work the dev put into making the game look good, and how little effort they must have put in period.

man I've been trying to tell fanboy's this since the wii lanuch, telling them the dev's where lazy just making games for the wii but totally relying on the wiimote and the actual games would be crap and NOW people realise it!

These Dev's just want a quick dollar like 90% like of the other 3rd party games.

they just include some mini games below or ps2 like gfx and rely 100% on the wiimote for added reply value and gameplay support.

how many of those wii games would you buy for the ps2, that shows how much they rely on it.

I was thinking the same thing a week ago. Why SHOULD every game have motion sensing!? I mean yeah its cool and all, but sometimes i dont feel like playing a game that involves flinging my ass around the room. I think some games should use the classic controller or even gamecube controllers to play. It creates the best of both worlds then on one system. It could be like a 360 and a wii all in one!

And on a little side-note, when are we gonna get some online games for the wii? This is getting ridiculous. I cant stand flicking my wrist in my room at night by myself. (lol)

Allright. Dont motion sensing has to do with the programming. The lack of textures would be level editors, mappers and textures. So the fact that people focus more time on motion has nothing to do with the actual mapping. Especially at big companys. There is no reason for this and they could have done alot better. Sure there are "view distances" and such but give me a break this is weak.

The Wii is more powerful than all three last gen consoles graphics wise. The Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2. I think EA took Nintendo literally when they said they preferred gameplay over grapihcs and made a game that could be played on an N64 with an expansion pack. Other games, eg Zelda, Prime, SMG, look amazing, but they're all Nintendo games. The Wii remote is not some excuse to churn out a piece of ***** game that looks like ***** *****ing ***** ***** *****! Get with it EA you tosser whore scum!

Now Nintendo has told ALL of you that Wii was not for graphics but to get back to the basics, and have fun again.

If you want graphics, you are going to have to wait, for Mario and Metroid... Now there is some grophics for ya.

Now as for you haters out there, leave the third party alone, its not their console so they dont know how it works yet... They need a few more months to pick things up into a higher gear and get their Priorities

Straight. So haters, back off for a while and let them adapt... This is next gen. They are still used to GameCube, which is way back there in Graphics. And i dont see why old skool grapx are that bad, I love em... Such as Super Metroid, Metroid 2, Mario, Zelda, etc.

So just get off Nintendos back, and start appreciating what they have achieved, i dont see your sucky PS3's getting attention.

For 360, ehh.. Its ok, but i would rather have Wii, its more fun...

We should put our money where our mouths are and tell Electronic Arts exactly how we feel about the low quality games they are producing.We are the ones that keep them in business after all. Hmm, I must say I disagree with this. I bought a Wii because it offers a new way to play video games. Motion sensing, aiming at the screen with the wiimote... I don't want to play games that don't use the Wii's special capabilities. When I wanna play "normal", good old games, I can play them on my Game Cube or PS2 or PSP, I don't need a Wii for that...

On the other hand, I don't wanna play games ported from another console, with Wiimote control artificially added... And most Wii games are like that, unfortunately!

I've had the chance to compare the Wii and PS2 versions, and it looks to me like the Wii has the EXACT SAME graphics as the PS2 with fewer jaggies and crisper (albeit the same as the PS2) looking textures. It also looks like the Wii engine has some problems with the super white plasticy lighting on the character models. Another thing nobody has addressed is this game is very glitchy, but the absolute worst thing about this game is that it's inferior than Spider-Man 2 in many ways.

I will say that it's lots of fun to swing the wiimotes to throw webbing, and overall the game is playable if extremely ugly even by last-gen standards. Unfortunately the webslinging mechanic on the PS2 version is very stiff and abrupt.

I have a Wii, but I got the PC version of this game, since my PC can run circles around my Wii. I'm upset that a last-generation console has better graphics than the Wii, when it is well known that the Wii is more powerful.

Developers will continue to spew out crap like this because they know Wii fans will still buy their products regardless.

Also, when has a movie-to-game release ever been great? It's a Spiderman game, haha.

I agree. The Wii may have a good control system but the power of the console is so lacking that the console will become outdated extremely quickly.

The reason for the poor graphics is because the Wii isnt actualy powerful enough to render a huge city from a high height! Simple as that.

Its not that "developers are giving Wii games sloppy treatment", its because the actual power of the console limits what they can do.

This is what happens when you try to put a next gen game on a console which doesnt have next gen technology.

the ps2 uses dvd disc which holds up to 4.87 gigabytes the wii uses WOD that can hold up to 4.87 gigabytes or dual layered WOD to 9.12 gigabytes the graphics are better on ps2 because it has no motion sensing but the wiii has it it takes about over 3 gb so that there's less space for the game

Depending on what type of tv you have, you can buy the HD Cables for your Wii. I bought mine for EB games for 50 bucks. graphics looking great

I think the real problem was they were rushed to meet the movie. It sucks balls how these companies give little budgets and expect amazing quality in short development time. This game isn't a finished product in the long shot.

i think it is unfair that heatseaker is getting completly shafted because i have it and the graphics that are actually on the game are no where near the same as the pictures that have been posted. it is an awesome game which is relatively unheard of and is been given bad ratings by people whove only seen the pictures of it. i myself was rather scepticull about the game at first after seeing some of the pictures but now i have the game its awesome .

the wii is getting shafted though and its totally unfair because its not the wii's fault it is the lazy ass developers who want a quick buck and make sh*t games and flog them by using the wii's controls but if the games not good people shaft the game and then others blame it on the graphics when it is easy to prove that the graphics arnt bad at all i meen look at zelda thats freekin awesome.

I realize people like you can't spell Activision and nobody has ever heard of Treyarch but, why does everyone insist this is EA's fault!? They had nothing whatsoever to do with either the development or publishing of Spider-Man 3! And, really Treyarch did their best to make it look good on the Wii; it's just not possible to make it look any better for that system; just as it's not possible to make the GBA and DS versions look as good as the PSP version!
