Wii Back-Up ISO loader 0.1 Released, Gecko OS dev - Image 1Wiibrew developer WiiGator has released Backup Launcher v0.1, a perfect marriage of two great programs: Nuke's GeckoOS, and a backup ISO launcher.

This program is basically an unofficial update to GeckoOS 1.07. Nuke says in his blog that he wants it "perfectly clear" that he had nothing to do with this release, so don't ask him for support for it. According to Backup Launcher's readme, waninkoko doesn't have anything to do with the program as well, either.

A note for everyone interested in this Wiibrew: this is a source code release, you'll need to compile it yourself using devkitpro. Here is the readme from the author (this was not included with the download, so pay attention):

Compiling Order

Run "make" to compile:
  1. extractpartition
  2. dip_module
  3. copy dip_module/bin/dip_module.elf to cios_installer/data/dip_module.elf
  4. cios_installer
  5. geckoos
Create DVD

To create DVDs you need extractpartition. Don't call this patching. It only decrypts the DVD. Patching is done within GeckoOS.
  1. Run extractpartition
  2. Burn output file to DVD-R (raw iso)
Installing
  • cios_installer - if you get an error message like "-1017" then you need first to uninstall IOS249.
  • dvdx, choose IOS249
  • geckoos
Note: cios_installer will install a custom IOS v6 which is same as Waninkoko's cIOS v5. You don't need to install it, if you already installed cIOS v5.

Thanks to SpongeFreak52, bam and jantunes for the heads up!

Corrected

Article corrected. The readme was a bit vague on how much code was actually WiiGator's though.

Aww.

I coulda sworn I submit a News Tip on this 2 days ago. =S
by natalic - 2008-09-29 13:40:59
This is 3 days old

This is really old news...But I have tested it and it DOES Work. I tried to convert the extractpartition to windows, but since I am on a 32 bit OS...I don't think it can handle it since it doesn't support 64-bit processing...I could have done something wrong, but it WAS working until it reached a certain part. It worked weird with mario kart, I think I need to burn the ISO slower, but I don't know.

...

Is it loading the disc slowly? If so... that's because of the limits intentionally put into DVDX by wiibrew.

Teehee.

Why thank ya. ^_^

...

so, you dont need to run this through the image creator of wani's first? i can run this off a regular backup? if so, then this is great news!!

can someone help me with devkitpro i dont know how to get the make file or know how to get it ready for this
by happygg - 2008-09-29 18:54:34
no...

you still need to patch the image with that app... its basically the same but with video mode changer and oricana? it fixes the gittering in mp3 and the black and white with some pal games on ntsc tv? also.. mario kart doesnt crash on first race for me anymore, crashes on 4th... so maybe some improvement in the basic code also

yo

yo happygg can u give me step by step intructions on how to do this from the start
by natalic - 2008-09-29 19:20:12
Yes and no

Yes, it is slow, but sometimes it just locks up completely.
by natalic - 2008-09-29 19:24:34
This is still in beta

This is really in beta form, I don't recommend using it yet. To those who asked how to compile it: extractpartition is a unix application. It will only build under Unix...I have a copy running in Windows based on a recompile I did myself...Still working on it The rest, I have no worked with yet, you are better off getting http://rapidshare.com/files/149227804/wii_backup_launcher.rar because it has everything in there...I used it myself, so hope that helps. As I stated, BETA, very BETA. Use with caution. but WiiGator did a good job getting it working. Enjoy!

worked well for me

I came along this earlier today and figured I'd give it a shot. It has worked for me with no trouble for both SWTFU and Guitar Hero 3. Only in GH3 the songs play off sync but if you hit pause and then unpause at the beginning they are fine. Noth games were NTSC and Im in ohio so I figure my TV and console are as well. Worth a shot if your bored. BTW the dvds were burned at 16x. Not sure if it makes a difference really. And I got this already compiled from http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=107074&st=0&start=0

Wario Land Shake it loaded for me but the opening story goes so slow and you cant skip it. i let it run for 15 minutes and the story was still going so i said forget about it. De Blob and Madden 09 are also working for me. I have noticed that a couple games wont load then I reset the wii and try again and they load the 2nd time.
