Gaming Country?

So rapid is the growth of the Australian games industry that, according to the Game Developer's Association of Australia, employment in the sector has grown 60 percent in the past three years. According to the Australian Electronic Game Profile Report, the industry is now worth AU$ 110 million each year, and employs over 1600 people, 1350 of which are permanent staff.

Eighty percent of the total revenue in the region is generated by the eight largest games companies with each reporting annual revenues of AU$ 4 million. The top four of those companies report over AU$ 10 million.

What's nice is that the report says that 80 percent of Australian games companies develop their own IP using 80 percent self-funding. However, the sad part is that only 20 percent of the projects that began as original IP made it to market. Despite this fact, Australian game companies still expect to grow within the next three years.

Nice to hear positive news from down-under, especially after that Tekken advert ban thingie.
