Australia: Nintendo and retailers report more Wii shortages

Australia: Nintendo and retailers report Wii shortage - Image 1Even with the hectic Christmas rush well behind us, it looks like Australia's chronic Wii console shortage is anything but over.

A Nintendo representative in the region confided during an inquiry that despite the company's efforts to ship more Wiis, the demand for the console was simply too much for their current supplies.

As Nintendo Australia's PR coordinator Heather Murphy states:

We put 10,000 units of Wii hardware into the market in the first week of January, and that sold through almost immediately as retailers were still filling Christmas demand. We are also shipping out 10,000 units of Wii hardware from today and then again later this week. We also have more stock arriving in late February and then more shipments in March and April. We are continually putting stock into the market, but the demand from consumers is still outstripping supply.

On a related note, retailers EB Games, JB Hi-Fi, Myer, and Target reported having the same shortages. Some stores note getting as few as six consoles  during their last delivery. Target in particular noted that they weren't expecting to get any more Wii shipments overseas until late March. For the guys in Australia, consider this your cue to start checking for other avenues to pick up your own Wii bundle (Play-Asia, perhaps?)
