The Australian reports that recently released the current next-gen sales figures for Australia indicate a rise in gaming system purchases in the Nation.

Anyhow, for those curious about how each console in the Australian version of the console wars, here are the results: The PlayStation 3 saw around 36,000 consumers on its side a month after the launch, despite the AU$ 1000 price tag. The Xbox 360, has around 160,000. The Wii is somewhere in the middle of the two, with at least 80,000 units sold in the country.

As for the size of the online network, Microsoft says that more than half of its Australian user base have subscribed to Xbox Live. Sony says that around 35 percent of their users are active on PlayStation Network.

Nintendo has yet to give an indication of how many Wii users are connecting their systems to the Internet.

Looks like the PS3 is totally getting whooped in Australia too. The 360 only had a few months sales advantage there. No wonder Ken Kutaragi quit.

Apparently even with free movie giveaways, they can't give away free PSN memberships. That's just sad.

» 360 launched 23rd March 2006 in Australia.

Yep that's right the 360 launched on the 23rd March 2006 in Australia, while the PS3 launched on the 23rd March 2007, so given this fact that the 360 has had a year in the Australian market make it's obvious that the 360 would be doing much better than the PS3 right now.

So next time you make some dumb arse comment make sure you ACTUALLY know what you are talking about.

» PS3 is finished even in Australia

The Australian launch of the Elite and When more stock of Wiis arrive they will kill off the PS3 there....

» Please dont

pretend like you know anything about my country you *****ing retards. Xbox 360 has been out for over a year, and considering that, the 360 hasnt made as much ground as it should have. That said many people do see the 360 as the better option, but most people in this nation dont see the price difference as a very big insentive, and those who do tend to be Wii lovers (i own a wii but dont think its very next gen, it plays my GC games, and plays old school VC downloads, and party games, so it has its place in my house).

PS3 will do well here undoubtly, even IF (and i dont think it will) PS3 does lose the generation worldwide, the stats will be skewed in australia to show more favourtism for a Sony here. Thats just how it will be. We are used to waiting so we could wait a little more, and we are used to paying large for electronics so we dont muck about with it.

The sales are per month, so if the PS3 'was' going to do better it would be selling more....

» stupid people...

all the figures are TOTALS... TOTALS!!!

since the PS3 has been out for only a monthe then it's a 1-MONTH SALES FUIGURE!!! the 180,000 for the 360 and the 80,000 are total sales figures to... by those numbers they are in trouble with the PS3...

you guys can do the math urself if u like..

36,000 for 1 month against 180,000 for 1 year.

by Quixand - 2007-05-02 12:15
» atleast this justin guy got it...

these figures are totals... it only seem monthly cause the PS3 has been out for only one month so for THAT CONSOLE ALONE it is a one-month sales figure.

keep in mind the amount of sales would be at a peak when the launch happens and the first few weeks then it drops and probably starts to climb again.

I don't feel that next gen consoles are that common in Australia, even I bought a 360 months after it launched and almost no one I knew had one then. Aussies are tight asses =)

» Nothings getting sold

In the small city i live in, There are 3 PS3's 2 XBOX 360's, at least 1 Wii 7 PS2's and plenty of GBA's and DS's. Nothing is getting sold here, but the Wii is favoured at the moment as it costs parents less then the PS3 or the XBOX 360.

» Actually...

...the ps3 is selling fantastic in the country i live in....360 should have made so much more ground and over 10% of the population have a PS2
